Lamborghini’s New Super Revuelto Is Setting Records On The Wrong Track

Lamborghini isn’t ready to show us the new Revuelto SV, but the latest Super Veloce is ready to show the world a thing or two. It’s already going after track records, but Lamborghini apparently isn’t ready to attack the most famous record-hunter track of them all. Instead, Lamborghini took a trip around one with a much shorter lap. It’s still a notable track, though.

We’ll finally get to see the new Lambo next week, when it’s launched along with at least one more special edition model.

Quickest Revuelto Shows Off Its Speed

Super Veloce is Italian for Super Speed, and the latest in that long-running series of Lamborghinis is showing it off. The car has just come back from the Hockenheimring in Germany, which was home to the Formula 1 German Grand Prix in 2019, the last time that race was held.

Lamborghini claims the Revuelto SV managed to lap the track in 1:41.6, and called that a production car lap record around the circuit. Is that impressive? Honestly, we’re not sure.

There are three different layouts for the Hockenheimring circuit, with three very different lap distances. There is the 2.842-mile Grand Prix circuit, the 2.32-mile National circuit, and the 1.64-mile Short Circuit 1.

Based on the times, this seems to be the full Grand Prix circuit. Lamborghini’s announcement doesn’t specify the specific layout; CarBuzz has reached out to confirm which circuit because that’s obviously some pretty important context here. If it is indeed the full GP course, the time puts the SV at almost exactly the same lap time as a Ferrari F430 GTC. That’s a proper race car, albeit one from 2010.

The track doesn’t post official record laps, certainly not for production cars, but Fastestlaps has some unofficial comparisons. Its own listings put the SV two seconds up on an AMG GT Black Series and the Ferrari SF90XX Stradale. But it puts the McLaren Senna at nearly one full second quicker. All of those times were set by noted German magazine test driver (and racer) Christian Gebhardt. Obviously, having more information on the SV’s changes will give all this a bit more meaning.

How Super Will SuperVeloce Be This Time?

When it comes to the performance upgrades, Lamborghini still isn’t talking. We have seen previous leaks claiming that the car will make 1,065 horsepower, up from the 1,001 hp the standard car makes through a combination of 6.5-liter V12 and three electric motors. We questioned that figure at the time, but the same post also had the correct Hockenheimring lap time more than a month ago.

That same report says Lamborghini will limit production to 1,963 units. That’s a nod to the founding year for Lamborghini as an automaker. We can’t help thinking 1,971 might be better, as that’s the year the first SV was launched. In any case, both numbers are extremely high when you look at the 1,100 units the company made of the Aventador SuperVeloce from 2015-2017. So at least there will be more SVs to go around this time.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

It’s very surprising that Lamborghini didn’t try the Nürburgring for this record. It might not have thought the car was up to it, or that it would be embarrassed by the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X. We know it’s been on the track, because we’ve seen it there. The Italian automaker said it picked the course as a “comprehensive assessment of a vehicle’s performance under highly representative conditions.”

The car’s launch might be more representative of the ownership experience. Lamborghini will launch the car on August 14 at The Quail, an ultra-exclusive automotive event that is part of Monterey Car Week. The Revuelto Miura 60 Homage will also be shown for the first time, as the event celebrates the Miura.
