Jeep Wagoneer and Ram’s extended-range EV face another delay

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Ram 1500 extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) may not arrive as soon as expected after yet another delay.

Jeep and Ram extended-range EVs delayed, again

Jeep said the 2026 Grand Wagoneer will be the first extended-range electric vehicle in the US when it goes on sale next year, while Ram has been promising an electric truck for years.

After delaying the fully electric Ram 1500 REV several times, Stellantis officially declared it dead last year.

Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said Ram had “a much more comprehensive product range” coming soon, including its first extended-range EV, initially known as the Ramcharger.

The Ram 1500 REV, as it’s now called, was set to arrive by the end of 2026, but that will apparently no longer be the case.

According to an Automotive News report, Ram’s extended-range EV pickup has been delayed again and will now arrive around April 2027.

Jeep’s extended-range Wagoneer EV has also reportedly been delayed. It was initially scheduled to enter production earlier this year, but will now face a six-month delay and won’t roll off the line until November 2027.

Unlike a fully electric vehicle, EREVs still have a gas engine that generates electricity to charge the battery and extend range when it gets low.

Jeep’s extended-range Grand Wagoneer EV has a 92 kWh battery pack and a 3.6-liter V6 engine that powers a 130 kW generator. According to Stellantis, the setup delivers a combined range of 500 miles on a full charge and a full tank of gas.

Jeep said the Grand Wagoneer EREV “sets a new benchmark in flagship performance ” with an estimated 647 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0 to 60 mph sprint in five seconds.

    Electrek’s Take

While Jeep and Ram’s extended-range EVs are facing another delay, several automakers are advancing the new powertrain technology.

Hyundai, Genesis, Ford, Volkswagen’s Scout, and a few others are planning to introduce extended-range EVs over the next few years.

Hyundai is launching the Santa Fe EREV as its first extended-range EV in the first half of 2027. It will be built at Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Alabama and sold in the US.

By pushing back the arrival, Stellantis will only put Jeep and Ram further behind the pack in the US market.
