Honda launched the Super-N, a “fun” electric hot hatch in the UK, starting at just $25,000.

Honda announces Super-N EV prices in the UK

Hot hatches are making a comeback with new all-electric models breathing new life into the segment.

Honda is the latest brand to join the craze, launching the Super-N, a souped-up version of its fully electric kei car, the N-One E, sold in Japan.

The electric hot hatch went on sale in the UK on Friday, starting at just £18,995, or about $25,000. “Not only is this one of the most affordable small EVs available, but it’s also one of the most fun,” Michael Doyle, Honda’s UK boss, said during the launch event.

Unlike most EVs, the Super-N is extremely light, weighing just over 2,400 lbs (1,097 kg), which Honda said makes it feel like driving the legendary wide-body City Turbo II performance hatchback from the 80’s.

At just 3,395 mm (133.7″) long, the Honda Super-N is even smaller than the Renault Twingo E-Tech (3,790 mm).

Built on Honda’s lightweight N-series platform, the Super-N is equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor, delivering 63 hp (47kW) and 162 Nm of torque.

A new Boost Mode feature unlocks the vehicle’s full performance potential, increasing output to 93 hp (70 kW). The power boost enables it to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 10 seconds, compared to 14.51 seconds when in standard driving mode.

The electric hot hatch is powered by a 29.6 kWh battery, providing a combined WLTP range of 128 miles.

On the city cycle, Honda said the Super-N gets up to 199 miles of range. Regarding charging, it can reach 80% in about 30 minutes with a 50 kW DC fast charger.

Similar to Hyundai’s performance EVs, such as the IONIQ 5 N, Honda’s electric hot hatch features an Active Sound Control system that simulates the sounds and jerk-feel of a seven-speed transmission.

Inside, the Super-N has a 7″ digital driver display and a 9″ central infotainment screen with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Surprisingly, the electric hot hatch is equipped with a premium eight-speaker Bose sound system as standard, featuring a 20 cm subwoofer.

Starting at about $25,000, the Super-N will be one of the most affordable EV hot hatches in the UK. It’s significantly cheaper than the Renault 5 and Hyundai Inster, but will the boxy, kei-car-like design stand out like a sore thumb? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
