Even amid cratering demand for the Daytona electric version, the Dodge Charger is still enjoying a massive increase in popularity, thanks to the powerful Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six now offered in the muscle car. Third-quarter ales for the so-called Sixpack powertrain were up by a massive amount, contributing to total Charger sales that were up 22 percent over last year.

What’s driving the coupe and sedan family’s newfound appeal? Well, the lower base price certainly can’t hurt.

The Turbo Six Is Posting Some Good Sales Numbers

During the third quarter of 2026, Dodge sold a total of 3,679 Chargers, a nice increase from the 3,014 sold in the same period in 2025. Of that total, 3,446 units were internal combustion Sixpack models, while the rest were speedy, all-electric Daytonas. Through the first nine months of the year, Dodge sold 8,796 Chargers in total, slightly less than the 8,943 examples that exited the showroom this time last year – the Daytona was bizarrely popular in 2025, but sales have fallen off a cliff since then.

The most exciting line item on the spreadsheet is the staggering growth of the six-cylinder. Compared to Q3 2025, Sixpack sales are up more than 1,300 percent, while even year-to-date sales are up 330 percent compared to last year. The popularity of the gas engine could be due in part to its lower cost of entry; for 2026, a Charger Sixpack R/T costs $51,990 to start (including the $1,995 destination charge), which is 10 grand less than the cheapest Charger Daytona.

Overall Charger demand is also likely higher thanks to the arrival of the four-door body style (which is actually a five-door liftback). The more practical shape improves the muscle car’s appeal with family-oriented customers and helps backfill the bygone LX-platform Charger, which was only offered as a sedan. We’ve asked Dodge if it can confirm the sales split between two- and four-door models, and we’ll update this article if the brand responds.

How Are Sales Compared To The Previous Generation?

Speaking of its predecessor, the current Charger still has a long way to go before it achieves the sales numbers of the 2022 and 2023 models. Through the third quarter, respectively, the muscle sedan found 24,201 buyers in 2022 and 16,915 in 2023. Meanwhile, the Challenger coupe (the de facto predecessor to today’s two-door Charger) was nearly as popular, with more than 16,000 sales in Q3 2022 and 11,000 sales in Q3 2023. Even in the waning days of 2023, Dodge racked up 28,000-plus sales of the Charger/Challenger, 7.6 times more than today.

It’s possible that the previous-generation Charger and its Challenger sibling were more popular because they offered the fleet- and budget-friendly 3.6-liter Pentastar as a base engine, with a starting price in the mid-$30,000 range. Today’s Hurricane inline-six is positioned as a Hemi alternative, with standard all-wheel drive adding value for those who’d want it anyway. Still, a $50,000 base price puts the Charger out of reach of lots of its former customers, who were able to get well-optioned R/T models (admittedly with rear-wheel drive only) for less than the starting price of today’s Charger.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

The Dodge Charger is starting down the seemingly long road to earning some respect from potential customers, and although overall sales are down compared to the nameplate’s heyday, it’s still good to see the muscular coupe and sedan moving in the right direction. The Hurricane inline-six is an absolute riot – 420 horsepower for the R/T and 550 for the only slightly more expensive Scat Pack – and since the Charger is a Dodge first and foremost, it’s all too happy to drift around with a selectable rear-wheel-drive mode.

But prices need to fall in order for the model to truly attain popularity, and one way of doing that could be reviving the Hemi V8 in yet another Stellantis product. The 5.7-liter mill is practically bought and paid for, so it could be cheaper to buy, and it allegedly fits within the STLA Large chassis. Even if it’s not as powerful as the Sixpack, the burbling V8 could be enough to bring Dodge fanboys back into the fold.
