Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) sub-brand Geely Galaxy will open pre-sales of the Cruiser 700 on September 15, expanding into the increasingly competitive rugged off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle) market.
Geely Galaxy announced the schedule on Tuesday. The Cruiser 700, also known as the Zhanjian 700, is the brand’s first rugged off-road SUV.
The model debuted on July 24 and is scheduled for an official launch later this year. The announcement of a pre-sales date brings it a step closer to market.
The Cruiser 700 will broaden Galaxy’s lineup as the brand’s sales gradually recover, though its year-to-date total has yet to return to growth.
Galaxy sold 119,115 vehicles in August, up 7.63% year-on-year and 10.50% from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
That marked its third consecutive month of year-on-year growth. Sales in the first 8 months totaled 746,705 vehicles, down 0.98%, narrowing the decline from 5.22% in the first half.
The Cruiser 700 features a triple-motor, four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain with differential locks, delivering a combined output of 830 kW (1,113 hp).
All variants come with a 47.14-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack using cells supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750), according to earlier regulatory filings.
The filings list an electric range of 165 to 185 kilometers, with variants powered by either a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
The Cruiser 700 has a 5-seat layout, measures 5,085 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Its boxy body, side-opening tailgate and externally mounted spare tire follow traditional off-road vehicle styling.
The vehicle also features Geely’s in-house GVMC (Geely Vehicle Motion Control) system, supporting functions including crab walking and tank turns.
Geely Galaxy previously said the SUV can wade through water up to 800 mm deep and offers satellite connectivity.
It has a roof-mounted LiDAR and supports advanced driver-assistance features.
The Cruiser 700 will enter a segment attracting a growing number of Chinese automakers. BYD (HKEX: 1211) and GWM (HKEX: 2333) have already introduced several rugged SUVs, with electrification and smart-driving features becoming key areas of competition.
The Cruiser 700’s powertrain delivers a combined output of 830 kW (1,113 hp) and supports a wading depth of up to 800 mm.
