Geely Galaxy, a sub-brand of Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175), will debut its first rugged off-road SUV, the Cruiser 700, also known as the Zhanjian 700, on July 24.
Geely Galaxy announced the plan on Tuesday, saying an event will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, where Geely is headquartered.
Following its debut, the model will appear in Milan, Italy, on July 26 as part of an overseas roadshow and other promotional activities.
The Cruiser 700 features a boxy body measuring 5,085 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,912 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, according to previous regulatory filings in China.
All 3 versions listed in the filings are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750), offering battery-only ranges of between 165 km and 185 km.
The model uses a tri-motor, 4-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system and is equipped with differential locks. Its combined system output reaches 830 kW, or 1,113 hp (1,128 Ps).
The vehicle has a power-to-weight ratio of as much as 392 Ps per ton, allowing it to accelerate more quickly and maintain stronger climbing performance on desert slopes, Geely Galaxy previously said.
Geely has claimed that the model has the highest power-to-weight ratio among mass-produced off-road vehicles globally, as well as the highest combined system output among mass-produced plug-in hybrid off-road vehicles.
The rugged off-roader features a full-width daytime running light at the front, with an illuminated Geely Galaxy logo positioned in the center.
At the rear, vertically arranged rounded-rectangle taillights, a side-hinged tailgate and an externally mounted spare tire give the vehicle a classic rugged off-road appearance.
Inside, the model is equipped with a large floating central display and a full-width digital instrument panel, while retaining numerous physical buttons, a conventional gear selector and a rotary drive-mode controller.
The vehicle can also wade through water as deep as 800 mm and supports satellite communications.
A roof-mounted LiDAR unit indicates that the Cruiser 700 will offer advanced driver-assistance features.
The upcoming launch of the Cruiser 700 comes as Chinese automakers accelerate their expansion into the rugged SUV market.
Domestic manufacturers including BYD (HKEX: 1211) and GWM (HKEX: 2333) have already introduced multiple models in the segment.
The new model is seen as key to revitalizing the Geely Galaxy brand. Once one of Geely’s fastest-growing sub-brands, its momentum has slowed significantly this year.
Geely Galaxy sold 108,206 vehicles in June, up 19.93% year-on-year and surging 32.40% from May, ending 5 consecutive months of year-on-year declines.
The brand sold 519,793 vehicles in the first half of the year, down 5.22% from a year earlier.
