    • The hybrid Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is more than 5 meters long, with pure-electric range of up to 185 km.
    • The Cruiser 700 is a key model to boost the Geely Galaxy brand, which returned to growth in June sales after 5 consecutive months of year-on-year declines.

Geely Galaxy, a sub-brand of Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175), has filed regulatory paperwork in China for its first rugged off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV) — the Cruiser 700 — paving the way for its official launch later this year.

The model appeared in the latest batch of new vehicle product filings released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on July 10. This is the last major regulatory step before a new model is approved for sale in China.

The filing covers 3 models in total, all plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions.

The Cruiser 700 measures 5,085 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,912 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,900 millimeters. Its height is offered in different optional configurations of 1,895 millimeters, 1,912 millimeters and 1,925 millimeters.

According to the filing, a high-power version is fitted with a 2.0T engine producing 160 kilowatts (215 hp), with maximum net power of 155 kilowatts and a top speed of 220 kilometers per hour. This version also supports towing, with a permitted trailer gross mass of 1,600 kilograms.

The other 2 low-power versions are equipped with a 1.5T engine producing 120 kilowatts, with maximum net power of 115 kilowatts and a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

All 3 models come with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, with cells produced by CATL (HKEX: 3750).

The entire lineup is fitted with a 47.14 kilowatt-hour battery pack, delivering pure-electric range of 165, 170 and 185 kilometers.

In terms of design, the Cruiser 700 adopts a boxy body shape, with a front fascia featuring a full-width daytime running light and an illuminated brand logo.

The rear pairs vertical taillights with a side-opening tailgate and an externally mounted spare tire, presenting a classic rugged off-road style.

The filing images also show a LiDAR unit mounted at the front of the roof, indicating the vehicle will support advanced driver-assistance features. This reflects how China’s rugged off-road models are accelerating their integration with intelligent technology.

According to information previously disclosed by Geely Galaxy, the Cruiser 700 will offer a tri-motor all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system and come equipped with differential locks.

The powertrain delivers a combined output of 830 kilowatts (1,113 hp), with a power-to-weight ratio as high as 392 Ps per ton.

Geely claims the vehicle has the highest power-to-weight ratio among mass-produced off-road models worldwide, as well as the highest combined system output among mass-produced plug-in hybrid off-road models globally.

In addition, it has a wading depth of 800 millimeters and satellite communication capability.

The upcoming launch of the Cruiser 700 comes as Chinese automakers accelerate their push into the rugged SUV market. Domestic manufacturers including BYD (HKEX: 1211) and GWM (HKEX: 2333) have already rolled out multiple such models.

The new vehicle is seen as key to boosting the Geely Galaxy brand. Once one of Geely’s fastest-growing sub-brands, its momentum has slowed markedly this year.

Still, the latest data show signs of a recovery. Geely Galaxy sold 108,206 vehicles in June, up 19.93% year-on-year and a sharp 32.40% rise from the previous month, ending 5 consecutive months of year-on-year declines.

The tri-motor, four-wheel-drive rugged SUV boasts a combined system power of 830 kW (1,113 hp).
