Ford revealed that its affordable midsize electric pickup will be named Fathom, with prices starting at just $28,350.
Ford reveals affordable EV pickup name and price
The Fathom will go on sale in early 2027 as the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal EV Platform.
Ford announced that pre-order prices will start at just $28,350 for the standard-range model, not including a $1,595 delivery fee.
The name Fathom was chosen for the meaning, Ford said, rather than just a random string of numbers and letters.
Fathom means “to penetrate and come to understand” possibilities that were once thought beyond reach, which is what Ford had to do to bring the midsize EV pickup to life.
While it will compete in the heart of the affordable EV market, starting at about $30,000, according to Ford, the price is the least interesting thing about it.
The “high-tech” and “fun-to-drive” pickup will have more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, and that’s not even including the bed or frunk trunk (frunk).

Every model will be equipped with a large, high-resolution touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, BlueCruise, bidirectional charging capabilities, and a digital key.
The Fathom will be the first vehicle to have Apple Maps built in, providing turn-by-turn directions using real-time data, EV routing, battery preconditioning, and more, all directly through the navigation display.
Ford will use the road-level data from Apple Maps to advance its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving tech for “a more seamless on-ramp to off-ramp experience.”
Ahead of its official debut, the upcoming Ford Fathom has been spotted testing in public several times. Last month, two disguised prototypes were captured at a Tesla Supercharger. The electric pickup will have a built-in NACS port.
Ford has yet to reveal battery specs, but the Fathom is expected to deliver at least 300 miles of driving range, given Ford’s focus on aerodynamics and efficiency.
The company is simplifying the manufacturing process using methods such as megacasting. Ford will also use prismatic LFP batteries, sourced from its BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan, to cut costs and maximize interior space.
