Changan Automobile (SZSE: 000625) launched the Q06 mid-size SUV (sport utility vehicle) under its Nevo brand on Wednesday, targeting one of China’s most crowded vehicle segments.
The model comes in 6 variants, comprising 5 battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions and 1 extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version.
The Q06 lineup leans heavily toward BEVs, unlike many rivals that offer a more even split between BEV and EREV variants for models available with both powertrains.
The SUV carries limited-time promotional prices of 135,900 yuan ($20,140) to 165,900 yuan, compared with official guide prices of 139,900 yuan to 169,900 yuan.
The Q06 measures 4,837 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,940 mm.
The BEV variants use an 800-volt silicon carbide platform and support 6C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 9 minutes.
The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive versions deliver 225 kW (302 hp) or 245 kW and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. The dual-motor version produces a combined 330 kW and completes the sprint in 4.8 seconds.
The BEV variants offer battery capacities of 66.02 kWh and 80.02 kWh, with CLTC ranges of 602, 700 or 670 kilometers.
The EREV variant pairs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a 28.39-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering 200 kilometers of battery-only range and a combined range of 1,600 kilometers.
All Q06 variants come standard with Changan’s SDA Pilot Pro driver-assistance system, a Horizon Robotics (HKEX: 9660) J6M chip delivering 128 TOPS of computing power, and LiDAR.
Buyers can upgrade to SDA Pilot Ultra for an additional 9,900 yuan, boosting computing power to 560 TOPS and adding a 256-channel LiDAR sensor and urban navigation assistance.
Changan said SDA Pilot is the first driver-assistance solution independently developed by a Chinese centrally administered state-owned enterprise.
The cabin features a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen, a 15.6-inch ceiling-mounted rear screen, a 9.5-liter refrigerator with 2 compartments, and zero-gravity front seats. The frunk offers 196 liters of storage, while the rear cargo area holds 782 liters.
The 150,000-yuan to 200,000-yuan mid-size SUV segment is among China’s most fiercely contested. The Q06’s rivals include BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) Song Ultra EV and Sealion 06, the Leapmotor (HKEX: 9863) C10 and the Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) G6.
Changan said its solid-state battery project is progressing steadily, with plans to validate the technology in robots and vehicles by the third quarter of this year.
