    • The current N7 went on sale in late April 2025 with a starting price of 119,900 yuan ($17,760).
    • Monthly retail sales of the N7 have fallen to 928 in August from a peak of 10,148 in August 2025.

Dongfeng Nissan, Nissan Motor’s joint venture in China, will launch the updated N7 electric sedan on September 22, seeking to revive a model whose aggressive pricing once shook China’s auto market.

Local auto media outlet Yiche reported the plan on Thursday, saying the updated model is expected to see adjustments to its configurations.

Dongfeng Nissan has not yet announced the plan through its official channels.

The current N7 went on sale in late April 2025 with 9 variants, priced between 119,900 yuan ($17,760) and 158,900 yuan.

The model offers two single-motor options rated at 160 kW and 200 kW, with CLTC range spanning 510 kilometers to 635 kilometers.

The N7’s sales trajectory reflects both the opportunities and the pressures facing joint venture brands in China’s electric vehicle market.

The model’s retail sales reached 10,148 units in August 2025, a record high. Retail sales fell to 928 units this August, with wholesale volume at just 619 units, according to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data compiled by CnEVPost.

The N7 is the first Dongfeng Nissan model designed and developed by a Chinese team, built on the company’s Tianyan architecture.

Its assisted driving system was jointly developed by Dongfeng Nissan and local startup Momenta (HKEX: 6880), and its cockpit incorporates AI large language models including DeepSeek-R1.

The 119,900 yuan starting price at launch was on par with that of Xpeng’s (NYSE: XPEV) Mona M03, and was seen as one of the major counteroffensives by joint venture automakers in China. Dongfeng Nissan has since accelerated the roll-out of its N series.

The N6 plug-in hybrid sedan, launched last December, carried a limited-time starting price of 91,900 yuan, targeting BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) Qin L DM-i.

The NX8, which went on sale in April this year, is the company’s first model to offer an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) option, and it secured 8,423 orders within 30 minutes of launch.

The fourth model in the N series, the NX7 plug-in hybrid SUV, completed its regulatory filing in August, paving the way for its launch.

Cumulative production of the N series reached 100,000 units in June this year, only about 14 months after the N7’s launch.

The Dongfeng Nissan NX7 features a new front-end design and roof-mounted LiDAR and will be positioned below the NX8.
