Try This If The New Screen-Filled Interior Isn’t For You
We’ve added some information about a used alternative to the new Silverado 1500 that still has plenty of features, but lacks the massive screens.
In the US, few segments are as important to mainstream automakers as the full-size pickup. Accounting for well over 2 million combined sales in 2025, trucks like the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and GMC Sierra – plus their heavy-duty siblings – are the most popular vehicles in their respective brand families, where they serve as both basic family transportation and hard-working beasts of burden all over the country.

In such a competitive and popular segment, it’s crucial to adapt quickly without alienating your loyal fans, which is exactly what Chevrolet hopes to do with the redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500. Despite totally new sheetmetal and an interior stuffed with technology, traditionalists will be thrilled to see that once again, Chevy is doubling down on the naturally aspirated V8, offering two options based on the new Generation 6 small-block architecture. Even more tantalizingly, one of those engines will make the popular half-ton truck more powerful than ever.
Good Ol’ Fashioned American Muscle
We won’t bury the lede too much more. The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will come with four engine options, two of which will feel familiar to current owners. The base mill will continue to be GM’s turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four called the TurboMax. Although Chevy hasn’t revealed power specs for the new truck just yet, the four-banger makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque in the 2026 Silverado 1500, and we have no reason to doubt the automaker will backtrack from those impressive numbers for 2027. Another engine will carry over into the new model, and that’s the segment-exclusive turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six that currently makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, as well as achieves up to 29 miles per gallon highway.

Of much more interest to us, however, is the duo of new V8s that GM has been developing for its full-size truck, which are based on the same Generation 6 architecture as the 2027 Corvette Stingray’s 6.7-liter V8. The first rung in Chevy’s small-block ladder will be a 5.7-liter unit whose displacement calls to mind the V8 found under the hood of the legendary OBS Chevrolet C/K-Series pickups built from 1988 to 1998. The automaker hasn’t revealed power for the new five-seven, but it’s probably fair to assume it’ll make quite a bit more than the 355-hp, 383-lb-ft 5.3-liter V8 found in the 2026 Silverado. We’d expect to see at least 400 horses from the 5.7.
2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500Chevrolet
If that’s somehow not enough, Chevrolet has one big trump card in its deck by way of an all-new 6.6-liter V8 that will be the most powerful engine ever offered in a Silverado 1500 (or its half-ton C/K predecessors) – for comparison, the (trouble-prone) 6.2-liter V8 in the 2026 model produces 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. Chevy also promises that the big mill will also be the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in its segment, beating out the Ford F-150’s available 5.0-liter V8 (400 hp and 410 lb-ft) the Ram 1500 Rumble Bee 392’s 6.4-liter V8 (470 hp and 455 lb-ft). Considering the slightly larger, more performance-oriented 6.7-liter V8 in the 2027 Corvette produces 535 hp and 520 lb-ft, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the 6.6-liter show even 500s in both metrics.
We hope the automaker doesn’t make us wait too much longer to learn more about the new Silverado’s engine lineup and other specifications, and considering the one-upsmanship that goes on in the full-size truck market, we’re fairly certain it won’t take a back seat to its predecessor when it comes to capability. The 2026 model has a maximum payload of 2,260 pounds and can tow a 13,300-pound trailer, numbers that we think could improve to around 2,500 pounds and 14,000 pounds, respectively.
Sleeker, Cleaner Styling For The Silverado
When the current full-size Chevy hit the market in 2019, it was a big departure from its predecessor with edgy, unusual styling that took some getting used to. The 2027 Silverado 1500 isn’t nearly as polarizing, however, with an evolved design that cleans up some of its forebear’s discordant lines without looking dated or dull. Up front, the kinked and notched design has been toned down in favor of quad LED daytime running lights – straight and horizontal up near the hood and C-shaped down lower – with a pair of fascia-mounted headlights that reduce dazzle for other motorists. The square grille is more traditional as well, with unique textures and finishes to set ách trim level apart from one another.

The truck’s bodyside contours are also more conventional, abandoning the current Silverado’s downward-swooping fender character lines and swapping in muscular, boxed flares in their place. Chamfered rocker panels add some subtle visual interest, and a new rear end features a similarly sculpted tailgate design with much less fussy taillights. On the ZR2 and High Country models seen in Chevy’s reveal footage, flashy quad exhaust outlets peek through bumper cutouts, a move that recalls the dual-exit exhausts on the Ram 1500. And Chevrolet’s innovative MultiPro tailgate returns as an option, integrating a bed step, load stop, and desktop work surface into the rear of the truck.

Way More Interior Technology
Moving inside, the 2027 Silverado 1500 is a significant departure from its predecessor, featuring a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster and massive 16.6-inch center touchscreen on every trim – even the base model. Step into either the High Country or ZR2 and Chevrolet will throw an 11.5-inch passenger screen into the mix, as well as a rear camera mirror and a head-up display. In total, the flagship trims will offer more than 60 inches of digital real estate to help prevent pixel deprivation syndrome in its owners.
More to the point for the average truck buyer is an optional “Multi-Flex” center console that apes the Ford F-150’s interior work surface thanks to a flip-folding armrest lid that creates a flat desk surface. There’s also a deep storage cubby and an available pair of wireless charging pads with magnetic locators to keep devices juiced up. Super Cruise technology returns to the 2027 Silverado 1500, continuing its reign as the only trailering-capable hands-free driver assistance suite in the segment.

A Truck For Just About Everyone
The 2027 Silverado 1500 will be available in eight trims. The base Work Truck will appeal to members of the Church of the Steel Wheel, although its front and rear fascias aren’t as soaked in black plastic as they once were, so it still looks pretty stylish. One step up is the Custom, which adds some more exterior style via 20-inch aluminum wheels and a standard dual exhaust. Then comes the Custom Trail Boss, which receives a 2-inch lift and 34-inch tires for some genuine off-road capability and an aggressive stance.

The simply named Silverado trim replaces the outgoing LT as the volume model, with approachable styling details and some slightly nicer interior finishes. Four-wheel-drive versions also receive the Z71 package as standard equipment, including some underbody protection, an off-road–tuned suspension, and a two-speed transfer case.

The Trail Boss trim (distinct from the Custom Trail Boss) includes all the off-road equipment of its kid sibling, but it adds a sport hood for even more visual aggression, and its interior echoes that of the Silverado trim instead. The High Country will be the most luxurious iteration of the new Silverado, with special 22-inch wheels with a diamond-turned finish and a sophisticated “Tritan Satin” finish for the front grille. Inside, expect acres of genuine leather and wood trim, plus more Tritan Satin brightwork.

The ZR2 once again makes a return to the lineup, featuring a new iteration of the Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve shock absorbers for excellent wheel and body control off-road; it also receives a 2-inch lift, 35-inch tires, unique front and rear fascias for more ground clearance, and front and rear locking differentials. The ZR2 Bison will be the off-road flagship, adding AEV-designed front and rear bumpers, skid plates, rocker protectors, and beadlock-capable 18-inch wheels.
Coming Soon To A Dealer Near You
Chevrolet will announce pricing and availability of the 2027 Silverado 1500 later this year, and we expect the full-size truck to hit showrooms in November or December. It’ll be built at a few different manufacturing plants in North America, while the next-generation small-block V8 will be produced in Flint, Michigan; Buffalo, New York; and St. Catharines, Ontario. We’re eager to learn more about the truck and will bring you details as soon as they appear.

Try This If The New Screen-Filled Interior Isn’t For You

While the new Silverado 1500 is a promising evolution, not everybody is satisfied with the truck’s new screen-filled interior. We get it — new things are scary, and many of us agree that trucks (or any vehicle, for that matter) don’t need screens on every surface. That said, opting for a used Silverado might be your ticket to maintaining brand loyalty while getting the same great capabilities with simpler interiors. The 2021 Silverado 1500 High Country, the truck’s nicest trim level, is currently worth about $36,700 on the used market. The 2027 model’s pricing hasn’t been revealed just yet, but we can guess it’ll cost more than that.
Under the hood is your choice of three engines, including the familiar 5.3-liter V8, 6.2-liter V8, and the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel I6. We’d opt for the diesel if Chevy’s recent V8 recalls worry you. Nevertheless, the High Country’s interior is simpler without missing the details. It still comes with perforated leather seats with 10-way power adjustability, heating and cooling. Also heated are the rear seats and the steering wheel. Dual-zone climate control is standard, as is an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment screen that’s capable of utilizing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so you don’t feel stuck in the dark ages.
