BYD’s sales are surging in overseas markets, including Europe and the UK, but with several new vehicles coming soon, this could be just the start.
BYD expands into new vehicle segments overseas
BYD sold over 160,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles overseas in May, the most it has ever sold in a single month.
In several major markets, including the UK, BYD surpassed Tesla and Kia as the best-selling EV brand through the first few months of 2026.
According to new data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), BYD registered over 26,000 vehicles in Europe last month, up 158% from around 10,000 in May 2025.
With plans to showcase eight new vehicles across three brands at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month, BYD is about to go on the offensive.
“This is more than a product showcase,” BYD’s executive vice president, Stella Li, said, but rather “a statement of intent.”
The company will show the world “how innovation, performance, premium design and sustainability can coexist within one of the most comprehensive automotive portfolios in the world,” according to Li.

BYD’s high-end Denza brand will take center stage, revealing two new global vehicles and one for the European market. The all-electric Denza Z Coupe and Denza Z Racing will make their debut at the event.

Based on the Denza Z Spider, the electric coupe is equipped with three electric motors, delivering a combined output of over 1,000 hp. BYD said the tri-motor setup enables a top speed of 217 mph. The Racing version takes it to the next level with an added carbon fiber aerodynamic package.
Denza will also introduce the Bao 5, a rugged, premium mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV. The event will mark Denza’s official launch in the UK, starting with the Z9 GT, followed shortly thereafter by the D9 DM-i (PHEV).

And that’s just the Denza brand. BYD will launch two additional vehicles under its own brand in the UK, including the new Dolphin G DM-i, a plug-in hybrid supermini specifically designed for Europe.
It will be the only plug-in hybrid supermini in the UK, offering a combined range of 646 miles and “class-leading” boot space.

The Shark, BYD’s plug-in pickup, will also make its European debut at the Festival of Speed. BYD already sells the PHEV pickup in several overseas markets like Mexico, Australia, and Chile.
Yangwang, BYD’s high-tech luxury brand, will launch the U9 Xtreme. The electric supercar set a production EV record with a 6:59.157 lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife last year and set an official production-car top-speed record of 308.4 mph.

Alongside the U9 Xtreme, Yangwang will showcase the U7, its ultra-luxury sedan available with pure-electric (EV) and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
If that’s not enough, BYD also recently confirmed plans to launch its new flagship electric SUV, the Great Tang, in Europe after a hot start in China.
