    • The current plug-in hybrid Tai 7 offers up to 200 kilometers of battery-only range, and the updated model is expected to offer a longer range.
    • Tai 7 sales surpassed 200,000 units about 10 months after launch, making it Fang Cheng Bao’s main sales driver.

BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao said on Weibo on Monday that it will launch a long-range DM version of its hot-selling Tai 7 SUV (sport utility vehicle) on August 18.

The brand said the launch event for the new variant will begin at 7:00 pm Beijing Time on Tuesday.

The plug-in hybrid DM version of the Tai 7 was launched in September 2025 with a starting price of 179,800 yuan ($26,490).

The current DM lineup has 4 variants, offering CLTC battery-only ranges of 135 kilometers, 200 kilometers, 190 kilometers and 190 kilometers, respectively.

The entry-level version is equipped with a 26.6-kWh battery pack, while the other 3 versions each use a 35.6-kWh pack.

With a full tank of fuel and a full charge, the existing DM models have a CLTC combined range of more than 1,300 kilometers.

The long-range version implies a larger battery pack that will extend the lineup’s battery-only range beyond the current maximum of 200 kilometers, although Fang Cheng Bao has yet to disclose the battery capacity or range of the new model.

On April 29, Fang Cheng Bao launched the battery-electric Tai 7 EV flash-charging edition, with a starting price of 199,800 yuan.

The electric version is offered in 2 rear-wheel-drive configurations with ranges of 675 kilometers and 755 kilometers. It uses BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, which can be charged from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes.

The Tai 7 has quickly become Fang Cheng Bao’s best-selling model since its launch. On July 20, the brand said cumulative sales of the SUV had surpassed 200,000 units.

Fang Cheng Bao said the Tai 7 was the fastest boxy SUV in China to reach 200,000 sales, taking about 10 months.

Fang Cheng Bao is a personalized new energy vehicle brand launched by BYD in June 2023, positioned between the Dynasty and Ocean lineup and the ultra-premium Yangwang brand.

Fang Cheng Bao sold 41,213 vehicles in July, up 190.6% year-on-year and 15.7% from June, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. Its sales in the first 7 months of the year totaled 200,687 units, up 167.9% year-on-year.

The brand’s average transaction price exceeds 223,000 yuan, Fang Cheng Bao said earlier this month.

Fang Cheng Bao is continuing to expand its product lineup. Earlier this month, it teased the Tai 9, a boxy full-size SUV measuring more than 5.3 meters in length with a wheelbase of more than 3.1 meters, positioning it above the Bao 8.

The 6-seat plug-in hybrid SUV measures 5,270 mm in length, exceeding the 5,195 mm Bao 8, currently Fang Cheng Bao’s largest model.
