Meta’s Muse is apparently an effective AI assistant, but one that’s a little creepy. Part of that is because of its new Mac app, which can access Messages, Calendar, and Notes. But for all its smarts, Muse doesn’t actually know how to describe itself. Jason Aten, a contributing editor at Inc Magazine, posted on Threads screenshots of an interaction he had with Muse in which the assistant asks him some questions about a conversation he was having in Messages. The problem is that Aten says he didn’t give Muse access to his messages. When asked how it knew about the contents…
There’s a glaring paradox regarding the Trump administration’s stance on EV adoption. On the one hand, Republicans scrapped electric vehicle tax incentives, scaled back on charging infrastructure programs, and adopted more lenient emissions standards. But then there is the other side of the coin, which has to do with the ongoing US – Iran conflict. Unrest in the Middle East is taking an increasingly heavy toll on fuel prices, and it seems unlikely that hostilities will cease very soon. Meanwhile, diesel climbed way above $6 at the pump and the national average for regular gasoline currently sits at just over…
It will also be the first time the company is adding V3 satellites to the Starlink constellation. SpaceX The next time SpaceX’s Starship rocket launches, it will orbit our planet and add Starlink V3 satellites to the company’s internet satellite constellation for the first time. SpaceX has now revealed that it’s targeting September 28 for the rocket’s 14th flight, with a 75-minute launch window opening at 8:15AM Eastern Time. The company was originally planning a September 22 launch, but it announced the new date without an explanation on X, where it also said that it’s still pending…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t listened to AM radio in a car in a long time. Nonetheless, it’s become a hot-button issue that’s reached the highest levels of government. As some automakers have looked to drop it, bills to mandate AM radio in new cars have been circulating in Congress for the past few years. One of them just cleared a major hurdle. The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act passed…
General Motors has a habit of building great cars, then killing them off just as the market starts to take notice. Prime examples include the Buick GNX, Pontiac G8 GXP, and the more recent Cadillac CT6-V. Another was the Chevrolet SS, a sedan packing a standard V8, rear-wheel drive, and the option of a manual transmission. It’s the kind of combination that makes enthusiasts drool, today more than ever given the dearth of serious sports sedans. However, buyers didn’t line up to buy the Chevrolet SS when it was available, so anyone who skipped it is probably regretting it now,…
In 1990, stepping into a well-optioned Pontiac Grand Prix STE Turbo felt like stepping into a futuristic cockpit. Steering wheel audio controls, gauge-flanking switch pods, a digital driver information center, and a head-up display projected directly into your field of view made it clear this wasn’t an ordinary sedan – a point driven home by the boost gauge hinting at the turbocharged V6 beneath the hood. It looked like the dawn of Pontiac’s high-tech era, yet just months later, the company abruptly pulled the plug on the car’s turbo drivetrain. Pontiac Turned Its First Grand Prix Sedan Into A Spaceship…

President Donald Trump speaks to reporters on the tarmac before boarding Air Force One. (Photo by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images) | Getty Images On Friday, the president threatened to ban CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the White House. It could have just been another one of his Truth Social fever dreams, but it turns out it’s very real. All three publications were turned away from the White House this morning, NPR reports, marking an escalation in the administration’s war on the First Amendment. Politico tried to get to the bottom of it, asking why now? It reports that “many senior…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. These days, Colin Chapman is probably more famous for the maxim “simplify and add lightness” than he is for founding Lotus and putting that maxim into practice. No car exemplifies the philosophy of lightness at all costs like the Lotus Seven, which is so simple that it was originally sold as a kit—and still is today, under the Caterham brand name. One anonymous builder took the Seven in a direction Chapman never intended. Under…
Newsom’s executive order calls for an expert panel to develop new AI safety measures. Heather Diehl/Getty Images With AI models from major companies all recently breaking out of their constraints, California’s governor proposed creating a “kill switch” as part of a comprehensive solution. In an executive order signed by Gavin Newsom on Friday, California will convene national experts to create new recommendations for AI safety during a two-month time frame. “We’re going to speed up our work on substantial and responsible AI oversight before it’s too late,” Newsom said in a press release. “We’re going to…
