In early 2024, Audi gave the A3 and S3 a bit of a freshening. A few new parts outside and some massaging inside were meant to be enough to keep the then four-year-old model looking sharp. It didn’t keep it sharp for long, because Audi has just revealed another new cabin.
This time, the differences are noticeable rather than hidden, including a new one-piece dash display and new materials, with new tech behind the scenes, including “swarm data” speed-limiting for the adaptive cruise system. Let’s take a closer look at the changes.
A3 Knows How Fast Everyone Else Drives

What’s swarm data? It’s when the car receives data from other cars that have been down that road before. The adaptive cruise system can use that to adjust your in-lane position even when it can’t see the line markings. Using the same data, the car can adjust its own speed to the average speed of the road. Drive where people speed, and the car might too. Drive where they go slow, and the car will go slow.

Adaptive Cruise Assist Plus, the new system, includes active lane guidance at up to 130 mph. It can change lanes by itself when you signal, and can read road markings and take traffic into account.
Audi is also adding Park Assist Pro with a remote function. It can self-park using the lines on the road, but you can also get out and let it park itself in even tighter spaces. Trained parking will let it drive into an elaborate or tight space all by itself once you show it how.

The Audi A3 Is About To Get The Brand’s Worst Feature
Audi’s A3 and S3 are just one model year old, but there’s already an update in the works.
Two Screens Are Now One

You can control all of those features on the new screen. The A3’s awkward two-screen layout with a vent perched on the center display is gone; it’s been replaced by one bezel that holds both. That’s an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit digital dash and a 12.8-inch infotainment display.
The design of the dash itself has been changed, so now a wider trim strip follows the screen to the edge of the passenger door. There are four options for that trim, including carbon fiber, microfiber, and two different textile finishes. Audi is also offering three steering wheel options for the car’s update, and each one has a physical scroll wheel instead of haptics.
With Audi’s smallest US model reaching six years old, we would have expected bigger changes. It’s overdue for a complete replacement at this point, but Audi is shoehorning in some extra tech instead.

The updated Audi S3 is an all-round more impressive sedan, but is there more to it than just a quick 0-60 mph time?
An electric Audi A3 is expected next year, but with these changes it may not displace the gas car. That’s not a surprise, as Audi and other brands elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group have struggled to shift from all-in on electric to a much more conservative rollout.
Audi says the new cabin is in effect “going forward,” so expect it in showrooms soon.
CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

A new screen and some extra driver assist features are nice to have, but they aren’t game-changing. Buyers looking at the A3 now who don’t care if their car can’t self-park shouldn’t bother waiting.
The changes, though, are a sign of the coming automotive times. Yes, automakers including Audi have said that they are launching new vehicles at record paces. But many of those “new” vehicles are like this. These are mild refreshes meant to extend a vehicle’s life cycle. Expect longer cycles as automakers struggle with tight budgets, tight buyer pocketbooks, and developing both gas and electric.
