Not long ago, cruiser motorcycles used to be these simple mechanical things that gave pleasure out of their relaxed everything: engine, ergonomics, and handling. But today, there is a new generation of cruisers. These have liquid-cooled engines, more technology, and better accessibility. Overall, you get a more reliable product for the kind of money that manufacturers spend on R&D.
However, with this influx of tech, stress and failure points have risen, too. So it’s totally fair to consider skipping the modern offerings and sticking with something like an old-school large-capacity Harley-Davidson. Or you could consider one of the new-age bikes that promise low stress and high retro swagger like the Indian we’re going to talk about.
How Does One Get Big-Bike Comfort Without The Big-Bike Stress?

Everything has a middle ground, as does this place between the traditional cruiser and the modern one. It lies in a space where upgrades have been made to make the quality of your motorcycle experience better, not just for bragging rights. It needs a careful balance between electronic assistance and plain old mechanical engineering. So you should have the necessary electronics and premium touches like a TFT honed over the years.

In the American cruiser world, that’s something that Indian seems to understand better than most. In fact, the brand has urged Harley to up its game and infuse more tech into its bikes in a way. So, look at Indian’s lineup, and you’ll see several recent cruisers in the most traditional sense when you ride them, and yet they have all the modern touches you need to make life in the saddle comfortable. This is where you will find the cruiser that delivers big-bike comfort without big-bike stress.

The Indian Super Scout Delivers Big-Bike Comfort Without Big-Bike Stress

The Indian Scout range has a great mix of different kinds of cruisers, and the Super Scout is the traditionally styled light tourer in the lineup. As such, it has an emphasis on comfort compared to the rest of the Scout lineup, and it does that with a bolt-on windshield, luggage, and a better seat for long-distance riding. It is still a part of the Scout lineup, which is why it is sized and priced quite reasonably by American V-twin cruiser standards. Indian has also put in a lot of thoughtful engineering to bring down ownership hassle and costs.
The Price Is Inclusive Of Everything You’d Need Or Want

The Super Scout’s price is $16,999. Doesn’t seem on the face of it to be value for money, right? Well, go through the details, and you’ll realize that this is one of the premium Scouts. Here, it means it has everything you need from the options list. It has a four-inch TFT display with connected features and a pillion seat as standard, alongside a bolt-on windshield and luggage. You do not really have to add any money to this base price, even if you want different colors from the factory. This then is good value because it isn’t just a base price; it’s the top-spec price with all the options included.
Powered By One Of The Most Modern American V-Twins

This is a very modern engine, and it only went on sale in 2025, replacing the old 1,133 cc engine. This is a 1,250 cc liquid-cooled DOHC 60-degree V-twin with a short stroke and a compression ratio of 12.5:1. That helps produce 105 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque generated at 6,300 RPM. This should let it hold its own with whatever else the competition might come up with. It puts all this power down through a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch and a belt final drive to the wheel.
Traditional Chassis Components Bring An Old-School Touch

For all the modernity of the engine, Indian has chosen to keep the Super Scout chassis completely traditional. That means it has a cradle frame with 41 mm telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Suspension travel available is 4.7 inches at the front and three inches at the rear. These traditional bits also help the platform hit the sweet spot between affordability and comfort.
Since this is a touring motorcycle with a retro aesthetic, Indian has chosen to give it 16-inch spoke rims at both ends. They are shod with Pirelli MT60 RS tires that require tubes. The brakes, again, are something that could be more modern. Currently, they consist of a single 298 mm semi-floating disc at the front paired with a two-piston floating caliper and a rear disc of identical size paired with a single-piston caliper.
Big Enough To Be Comfortable, Yet Small Enough To Be Manageable
The Super Scout is one of the bigger mid-size cruisers, but it is quite narrow thanks to the V-twin engine. Coupled with the low seat, it helps to make this bike quite manageable. It is 89 inches long and 36.1 inches wide, with a wheelbase of 61.5 inches. The seat height is 26.8 inches unladen, and the ground clearance is 4.4 inches. The fuel tank might feel a little small for a light tourer at 3.4 gallons, and it weighs 589 pounds in running order.

Features List Is Comprehensive

Once aboard, the Scout treats you with a four-inch circular TFT display that has GPS navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. It also displays bike health and ride stats. Among the other standard equipment are a passenger seat and footpegs, all-LED lighting, a USB charging port, keyless ignition, saddlebags that have over eight gallons of storage space, and a quick-release windshield. As for electronics, ABS and traction control, along with ride modes and cruise control. However, there’s no six-axis IMU, so neither of these has cornering functions.

Among the options are various suspension upgrades, including a $1,000 performance set by Fox, an adaptive LED headlamp, and a quarter fairing that allows you to install a Bluetooth speaker in it. We also must mention that all the paint options are metallic, and they all cost the same. Rounding things off, the PowerPlus 1250 deserves some love here for how secretly reliable it is. It is a semi-dry sump design, which means it is very compact in terms of height. It also helps with reliability because it maintains a consistent temperature across the entire engine and, as a result, it has a 10,000-mile oil change interval—twice as much as its direct rival.

There Is No Real Direct Competition For The Super Scout

Indian has smartly identified a gap in the market, so the Super Scout doesn’t have any true competition. If you look at cruisers that have a light touring option with the traditional V-twin engine, there are traditional Japanese V-twin options in the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT and Suzuki Boulevard C50T Special. However, they cost thousands less than Harleys and the Super Scout, and they have nowhere near as many modern features as the Indian.

The only other modern option is the Honda Rebel 1100T DCT, and it is so versatile that it can pretty much do it all. The Honda has an engine with comparable displacement and a comparable power output. For less money, you can have a traditional rectangular five-inch TFT display with Bluetooth and navigation, and a six-speed automatic gearbox should you so wish. The wind protection and luggage carrying options are also slightly better with a handlebar-mounted ‘Batwing’ fairing and hard luggage. However, the difference in philosophy makes for a very interesting conundrum: go for the traditional American V-twin or the more modern Japanese cruiser?
