    • Currently, more than 1,000 show cars and test-drive cars of the updated L60 have arrived at Onvo stores.
    • The mid-size SUV features Nio’s in-house developed Shenji NX9031 chip for the first time and highlights a lightweight design.

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo began nationwide deliveries of the updated L60 in China on Friday, after officially launching the mid-size SUV (sport utility vehicle) model yesterday.

Onvo announced the progress on its social media accounts and shared several photos of the delivery ceremonies.

Currently, more than 1,000 show and test-drive cars have arrived at Onvo stores, the brand highlighted.

The updated Onvo L60 starts at 192,800 yuan ($28,440) for the whole vehicle purchase, down 6.8% from its predecessor’s 206,900 yuan.

Consumers can also choose the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental option. Under this plan, the starting price of the new car drops significantly to 135,800 yuan.

Notably, this price cut comes against the backdrop of rising vehicle manufacturing costs. Nio management recently admitted that the cost of the updated L60 has increased significantly compared to its predecessor.

The new car is offered in three variants: Pro, Max+, and Ultra+. The biggest technical highlight is the first-time use of Nio’s in-house developed 5-nanometer automotive-grade smart driving chip, Shenji NX9031, for the Max+ and Ultra+ versions.

In addition, the new model adds a version equipped with LiDAR sensors for the first time. The starting price of the Max+ version, equipped with the Shenji NX9031 chip, is even lower than the base price of the older L60.

The Max+ and Ultra+ variants, combined with the Nio World Model (NWM) architecture, can support point-to-point all-domain navigate on autopilot. It can even autonomously enter and exit battery swap stations for power replenishment.

The entry-level Pro version continues to use a pure vision solution. Like its predecessor, this version is equipped with an Nvidia Orin-X chip with a computing power of 254 TOPS.

In terms of hardware architecture, the new L60 adopts a 900-volt high-voltage platform. This allows the vehicle not only to support a 3-minute quick battery swap but also to charge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes.

The car comes standard with a 60-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of up to 560 kilometers. It also offers a larger 85-kWh battery pack option, extending the CLTC range to 740 kilometers.

To attract early buyers, Onvo has introduced limited-time ordering benefits. Users who place non-refundable deposits and lock in their orders on or before June 30, 2026, can enjoy car-buying perks worth over 53,000 yuan.

In addition to smart upgrades, Nio Inc founder William Li highlighted the new car’s lightweight design at yesterday’s launch event.

As consumers pursue longer driving ranges, Chinese passenger cars are becoming increasingly heavy. The average curb weight of new passenger cars in China has surged to 1,704 kilograms in 2024, an increase of nearly 400 kilograms compared to 2012.

Li said today that reducing the weight of a new energy vehicle (NEV) is a systematic engineering task that requires immense courage.

The updated Onvo L60 extensively uses high-strength lightweight materials and a new generation of ultra-thin battery packs, according to Nio. The curb weight of its rear-wheel-drive version is only 1,885 kilograms, which is generally over 300 kilograms lighter than pure electric models in the same class.

The delivery of the new car is expected to further sustain Onvo’s recent strong sales momentum. Thanks to the intensive release of new models such as the L80 and the 2026 L90, the brand delivered a total of 12,029 vehicles in May.

This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 91.51% and a surge of 124.76% compared to April. Among them, the Onvo L80 large five-seater SUV delivered 5,949 units within just 15 days after its launch in May.

Nio Inc as a whole also performed well in May, delivering a total of 37,705 vehicles, setting the highest single-month record so far this year. The company expects total deliveries in the second quarter to be between 110,000 and 115,000 vehicles.

The model was limited to just 333 units, with the pace of sales exceeding the management team’s initial expectations.
