Jeep And Ram Are Carrying Stellantis’ Corpse In The USA

Stellantis has had its back against the wall in recent times, with falling sales and various high-profile recall programs undermining the trust it has in the eyes of the public. The automotive giant, which was the result of a merger between Fiat-Chrysler and the PSA group that includes brands like Citroën and Peugeot, has thus struggled to deliver on the promise that the landmark partnership offered when it was established five years ago.

Many of its brands have failed to make much progress in an ever-more cut-throat automotive landscape hit by ever-tightening emissions regulations and increasing production costs. Having reported a mammoth $22 billion net loss last year, it needs a swift turnaround to ensure that it’ll be around to play a part in the future of motoring. Its Euro-centric brands have failed to make much of an impression in the US, but it at least has a couple of marques propping it up for now.

Jeep And Ram Are Keeping Stellantis On Life Support In The US

For the most part, taking a peek at Stellantis’ US sales figures leaves much to be desired, at least for most of its brands. Take Dodge as a good example, which managed to shift just 100,000 models throughout the whole of 2025, which is a tiny fraction of the number of vehicles that rivals Chevrolet and Ford sold. Both were very closely matched, though the latter grabbed the initiative thanks to 1.88 million machines being sold versus Chevy’s 1.81 million performance.

With 80,000 of Dodge’s US sales coming purely from its Durango SUV, it’s clear to see the brand is in desperate need of an improved product lineup. Even Chrysler managed to get the better of it, despite only offering the Pacifica minivan at the moment.

    Model

    2025 US Sales

    Jeep

    593,399

    Ram

    374,059

    Chrysler

    125,795

    Dodge

    100,095

    Alfa Romeo

    5,652

    Maserati

    2,838

    Fiat

    1,141

Fortunately for Stellantis, its Jeep and Ram brands are faring much better right now. The former fared best with 593,399 vehicles sold throughout 2025, which left it ahead of marques such as BMW, Mazda, and Volkswagen, despite offering a more restrictive product range. Ram also performed strongly thanks to its 374,059 machines sold, which is impressive given that its primary lineup consists of only the 1500, 2500, and 3500 truck ranges.

    Stellantis’ Euro Brands Barely Register

Stellantis is lucky that its US-focused manufacturers are getting the job done, as its upper-market European contenders are currently as useful as chocolate tires in the summer. Alfa Romeo and Fiat sit at the bottom of the 2025 US automaker sales list, with just 5,652 of the former and a miserable 1,141 examples of the latter managing to find new owners.

Costly tariffs have had a profound effect on the affordability of the cars offered by these brands, as they’re produced in Europe and then shipped across the Atlantic. The added tariff cost gets dumped on the vehicle’s MSRP, and paying north of $30k for a tiny 500e city car isn’t particularly attractive for many Americans. That said, recent price cuts for the vehicle make it a little more tempting than it otherwise may have been, which could help its 2026 figures.

Even Stellantis’ halo Maserati brand got the better of Fiat in the US, though its Grecale SUV failed to find the success hoped for. The result was fewer than 3,000 new Mazzers being sold in the US, with the cars once again held back by costly tariffs.

Ever-Popular Trucks Are Helping Bring Some Positivity To Stellantis’ US Operation

The Ram 1500 Rebel will take you quite a way off the beaten track.Stellantis

While Ram ultimately trails Jeep in terms of outright sales, it does house Stellantis’ most successful family of vehicles. The marque’s 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks combined to leave the Ram Pickup as the fifth-best machine in the US when it came to overall sales. While still far behind its Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado rivals, the Ram Pickup still provides Stellantis with a much-needed payday. Trucks are, after all, the most popular form of vehicle in the US, so keeping the Ram ticking along nicely should always ensure that the brand will keep its head above water, even if many of its siblings are actively drowning.

Jeep’s solid sales are largely driven by three different models. The most successful of these is the Grand Cherokee, which provided nearly half of the marque’s total 2025 sales with 210,082 examples being sold. The venerable Wrangler adventure SUV and Compass compact SUV also performed well, with these contributing 167,322 and 101,997 units to Jeep’s total tally, respectively. All three represent some of the most prolific automotive sectors out there right now, with the Grand Cherokee providing a spacious mid-size SUV that provides the rugged off-road ability the brand is known for.

Stellantis Suffers Huge Losses As Restructuring, Tariffs Bite

Stellantis had a disastrous 2024, and 2025 is shaping up to be even worse.

The more affordable Compass stands out well for those playing with tighter budgets, with its rugged styling setting it apart from softer rivals like the Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5. In addition, adventure SUVs have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years following the Covid-19 pandemic, which has boosted the prospects of the legendary Wrangler model.

Jeep’s range of SUVs and trucks perfectly captures the spirit of adventure that goes hand-in-hand with the SUV lifestyle, offering a strong niche in this regard versus its primary competitors. As long as it sticks to its roots, the manufacturer’s strong brand image should keep it running strong.

Stellantis Is Working Hard To Ensure Its Successful Brands Continue To Flourish

Stellantis recognizes that it needs to mould itself to the needs and wants of the paying public if it is to keep the lights on. The group’s American arms have recently shown that they’re nicely tapped into current trends thanks to several big decisions that have been made for the future. One of the biggest of these is to pivot away from full electric cars, as well as plug-in hybrid machines, due to sales collapsing for both. It recently announced that all its PHEV offerings had been killed off, with these being replaced by a range of range-extender models set to be released over the coming months and years.

In addition to this, the legendary Hemi V8 was also brought back into circulation. The powerplant was initially ditched in favor of more efficient alternatives like Stellantis’ range of Hurricane inline-six engines, as well as electrified options. Having accepted that this approach wasn’t working, it did a full 360 and resurrected the unit for use in the likes of the Ram 1500, various Jeep models, and potentially Dodge’s Charger in the future.

It’s attempting to connect with the auto enthusiast once more, but it remains to be seen whether this will help boost its American fortunes once more.

Its Less Successful Brands Aren’t Being Assisted All That Much

Stellantis recognizes which of its outlets are currently delivering results, and so it has recently taken steps to ensure they get the attention they deserve. To try to reduce the heavy financial losses the company is experiencing right now, it is making a radical shift to reduce the amount of money it grants to most of its brands in order to prioritize its biggest winners.

Stellantis outlined in April 2026 that it would be focusing on the Jeep and Ram brands in the US, meaning the likes of Chrysler and Dodge will essentially get less pocket money. As a result, vehicles offered by these brands will rely more heavily on platform sharing, whereas the priority marques, which also include Fiat and Peugeot on the international stage, can look at more unique designs. In effect, these four manufacturers will develop any new platforms and technical componentry to best suit their applications, and the rest will have to cobble together models from these bits.

There may be plans in the future to try and boost the fortunes of the other marques in a more sustained fashion, but the focus for now will remain on the four core brands continuing to provide success. Therefore, don’t be surprised to see Jeep and Ram continue to head Stellantis’ charge in the US, whereas Chrysler and Dodge will have to play as supporting acts. As far as Alfa, Fiat, and Maserati go, there’s a chance that they could be relegated only to markets where they do well.
