The writing has been on the wall for a while, but now it is official. The third generation BMW Z4 is headed for the history books, and its sendoff comes in the form of the 2026 Z4 Final Edition, a limited run that leans hard into drama, nostalgia, and collectability. Launched for 2019 as the Austrian built sibling to the Toyota Supra, the G29 Z4 brought sharper dynamics and a return to classic roadster proportions. Production is scheduled to wind down in early 2026, with Final Edition cars built in very small numbers between February and April, making this car as much a farewell letter as it is a weekend toy.

Visually, BMW has gone all in on the mood. Every Z4 Final Edition wears Frozen Black metallic paint, which gives the car a satin, almost stealthy presence. That finish is paired with the Shadowline package, so the grille surround, mirror caps, air intakes, and exhaust tips are all finished in gloss black. The only real pop of color comes from the red calipers hiding behind the staggered wheels, making the car look like it is permanently dressed for an evening drive on a canyon road.

Open the long door and the theme continues inside. The cabin is a sea of black leather and Alcantara across the seats, door panels, and center console, broken up by red contrast stitching on the seats and floor mats and the familiar M tricolor stripes woven into the seatbelts. Final Edition lettering on the door sills quietly tells those in the know what they are stepping into, while standard kit like the Premium Package, Harman Kardon audio, and BMWs driver assistance tech remind you this is still a fully modern roadster underneath the nostalgia.

Under the hood, BMW kept things simple and enthusiast friendly. Every Final Edition is based on the Z4 M40i, which means a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline six with 382 horsepower and 369 lb ft of torque going to the rear wheels. You get exactly one meaningful choice to make on the order form, and it is the one that matters most to drivers. Buyers can pick either a six speed manual or an eight speed automatic, and no matter which gearbox you choose, the sticker lands at $78,675 including destination. With production intentionally capped for just a few months and BMW openly confirming that the Z4 will not be replaced, this Final Edition feels tailor made for collectors who still want a roadster they can actually drive and enjoy.
