- Yangwang confirmed that the new model, internally codenamed “HU,” will be unveiled in the UAE, but has yet to announce a date or venue.
- The sedan will expand the brand’s executive luxury lineup, with its official name, pricing and key technologies still to be disclosed.
BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) ultra-luxury brand Yangwang will unveil an executive sedan internally codenamed “HU” in the United Arab Emirates, further expanding its high-end lineup.
Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang’s sales division, announced the plan on Weibo on Wednesday, without disclosing a date, venue or the reasons for choosing the UAE.
Hu said the brand would share more about its choice of location and preparations for the unveiling later. She also invited fans to suggest venues and activities for the event.
The announcement confirmed the country where the new model will be unveiled but did not address local launch or sales plans. Its official name and pricing were also not disclosed.
In September, Zheng Yu, assistant general manager of Yangwang and head of marketing and user development, released teaser photos of the sedan and indicated that it would feature new technologies.
The new model is said to measure about 5.5 meters long, with an estimated price above 2 million yuan ($296,440).
The vehicle shown in earlier images remained camouflaged, with a boxy profile, a long hood and wheelbase, and roof-mounted LiDAR. Its styling is expected to carry over some design elements from the Yangwang U8.
Auto Home reported on September 27 that the sedan was expected to measure about 5.5 meters in length, similar to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and could cost more than 2,000,000 yuan (about $297,650) in China.
The report also said the model could feature coach doors. However, its pricing, dimensions and specifications remain expectations from earlier reports and were not confirmed in the latest announcement.
Yangwang already offers the U7 sedan in plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions. If the reported pricing expectations materialize, HU would take the brand further into the higher-priced executive sedan segment.
The model would continue Yangwang’s expansion in executive luxury vehicles. The brand launched the U8L Dingcang Edition, a 4-seat flagship SUV, on August 5 with a starting price of 1,458,000 yuan.
