SDLG Brasil has completed its first sale in the South American country, delivering an order of six heavy-duty electric wheel loaders to Brazilian mining, construction, and infrastructure company Grupo Base.
Grupo Base ordered four, 27-ton L972 HEV and a pair of, 12.5-ton L938 HEV loaders from Chinese equipment brand Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (the “SD” is “ShanDong,” the LG is “LinGong”) back in June, and the first of the machines are now reportedly on-site, moving dirt, but not making noise.
“This contract is a historic milestone and comes at a time when we have taken on commercial responsibility for SDLG across 60% of Brazil,” says Carlos Renato Machado, executive director of SDLG’s Brazilian distributor, Tracbel, before adding that the company hoped to expand the use of electric mining and construction equipment throughout the region.

The SDLG machines draw power from 423 and 180 kWh LFP battery packs, respectively, with the larger machines sending power to a 230 kW (~305 hp) electric motor and the smaller machines getting a 180 kW (~240 hp) one. Both specs promise a full day’s worth of continuous operation and fast DC charging between shifts.
Grupo Base operates a fleet of 450 heavy equipment assets at more than 30 concrete and mortar batching plants and 20 crushed stone and fracking sand sites, employing more 2,000 people. The electrification of those assets would represent a massive environmental benefit to the ecologically sensitive region – and that’s a fact not lost on Grupo Base executives.
“We are driving a major transformation across our operations,” says Edson Pechio, president and CEO of Grupo Base, said. “We want to incorporate solutions that will enable us to operate more efficiently and progressively reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
