Lucid is recalling 27,185 Air electric sedans in the U.S. after discovering that circuitry associated with the car’s exterior lighting system can overheat and potentially lead to smoke or fire. The recall covers certain 2022 through 2026 Lucid Air models produced between October 2021 and July 2026. The problem is not tied to the Air’s high-voltage battery pack, but instead involves software controlling low-voltage exterior lighting circuits. In addition to the fire concern, overheating could cause affected exterior lights to malfunction, creating another potential safety issue on the road.

At the center of the recall is the software logic governing an electronic fuse, or eFuse, that provides overcurrent protection for certain lighting circuits. Lucid determined that older software could allow a circuit to remain energized at an excessive amperage instead of shutting it down quickly enough. That can generate enough heat to damage wiring or lighting components and, in more serious cases, result in smoke or fire. Drivers may notice a burning smell, visible smoke, or warnings indicating an exterior lighting malfunction if the problem occurs.

Lucid’s investigation identified three fire incidents involving front lighting over a period of roughly three years. The automaker also found four reports of smoke linked to overheating of the center high-mounted stop lamp circuit, along with 33 additional warranty reports involving damaged wiring for that brake light that could be related. The good news for owners is that Lucid says the fix does not require replacing hardware. Software version 2.10.0, released over the air in July 2026, lowers the eFuse protection threshold and prevents a faulted circuit from repeatedly re-energizing during the same key cycle.

A large portion of the affected Air fleet has already received the update. Lucid reported that 20,719 of the 27,185 recalled cars had been updated to software version 2.10.0 or newer when the recall documentation was prepared, leaving 6,466 vehicles still needing the remedy at that time. Owners who have not yet installed the update are being advised to park outside and away from buildings until their vehicle is updated. Lucid plans to notify remaining affected owners by mail beginning October 16, 2026, and the software update will be provided at no cost.
