SAIC Volkswagen, Volkswagen’s joint venture in China, has filed for the ID. ERA 5X sport utility vehicle (SUV), the first all-electric model in Volkswagen’s ID. ERA lineup.
The compact SUV was included in the latest catalog of models set to be allowed for sale in China, released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Friday with 2 filing pages.
The ID. ERA 5X measures 4,560 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm. It has a 5-seat layout.
The vehicle is powered by an electric motor supplied by United Automotive Electronic Systems, with a peak output of 155 kW and a top speed of 175 km/h.
It uses a lithium iron phosphate battery, with battery cells supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750).
Following the disclosure of the regulatory filing, SAIC Volkswagen shared additional official images of the ID. ERA 5X, offering a closer look at its exterior details.
The ID. ERA 5X is Volkswagen’s first production model globally to be built on the CMP (China Main Platform) and equipped with the CEA (China Electronic Architecture).
CEA is a new electrical and electronic architecture jointly developed by Volkswagen and Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV). FAW-Volkswagen’s ID. AURA T6, which entered the regulatory filing process last month, was the first model based on the CEA architecture.
The filing for the ID. ERA 5X comes as SAIC Volkswagen is building momentum for the first sedan in the ID. ERA lineup.
SAIC Volkswagen said earlier today that the ID. ERA 5S will begin pre-sales on August 11 and officially launch in the third quarter.
The ID. ERA 5S is Volkswagen’s first sedan globally to feature urban NOA (navigation on autopilot) capabilities.
SAIC Volkswagen’s ID. ERA lineup currently has only 1 model on sale, the ID. ERA 9X, a range-extended SUV that was launched in China in March.
The Volkswagen ID. UNYX 09 is the second model jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng within 24 months.
