Buyers are running out of time to secure the last Toyota GR Supra before its discontinued after this model year. The Final Edition is fairly pricey, but potentially worthwhile for a collector who plans to actually drive the high-powered coupe like it’s meant to be driven. On that note, there’s another even rarer track-focused Toyota for a similar price: the GRMN Corolla. It’s limited to just 730 units worldwide, so chances of actually getting one are slim. However, for about the same price, would you rather have a hard-core Toyota hatchback, or a BMW-built two-door with more comfort features than tire-shredding features?

Toyota Supra VS GRMN Corolla Pricing Compared

We’ve all heard of hot hatchbacks, with the most popular models usually coming in the form of Honda Civic Type Rs and VW Golf Rs. That said, the hottest hatch of 2026 happens to be the Toyota GRMN Corolla. More on its specs and what makes it so intense later — for now, its price has us interested in comparing it to a more readily-available Toyota sports car.

The GR Corolla is available in three trims; the base model starts at $40,520, then the Premium Plus trim comes in at $46,565 before destination and options. Finally, the GRMN variant expects a higher premium, since it costs $64,360, or $17,795 more than the Premium Plus trim.

At that price, you might start considering your options. Is a Corolla really worth nearly $65k? You’ll have a better time deliberating in the following sections, but you should know that the GR Supra is an equally cool car for a similar price (even if it’s a BMW under the skin). There are three trims to choose from that include the base model for $58,300, the Premium for $61,450, or the MkV Final Edition for $69,350. That means a Premium 6-pot Supra is cheaper than a Corolla.

Obviously, that’s a lot of money for either model. However, to put their prices into perspective, remember that the GRMN Corolla is a limited-edition (730 units worldwide) track-focused model, and the GR Supra is on its last legs before being discontinued for good.

The GRMN Corolla Is A Track-Ready Race Car

All GR Corollas are equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-3-cylinder. While the two regular models are tuned for 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, the GRMN variant gets a torque bump up to 302 lb-ft. That might not sound like a huge difference, but seasoned track drivers might be able to tell when they’re behind the wheel.

Nevertheless, the GRMN is also set apart by its lack of an optional automatic transmission — buyers are stuck with the more engaging 6-speed “intelligent” manual transmission that rev matches for you. All trims come with standard all-wheel drive.

To make this variant truly special, Toyota engineers had to offer more than a few more pound-feet of torque. The GRMN Corolla is built with a stiffer chassis, new aerodynamic components around the exterior, and it’s lighter than the regular variants by swapping regular panels for carbon fiber. The front fenders and the carbon fiber hood have vents to upgrade temperature regulation. Other carbon pieces include a lower front bumper spoiler, forged carbon fiber interior trim, and an adjustable rear spoiler.

Speaking of temperature regulation, Toyota expects owners to drive these as hard as possible on some intense track days in all kinds of weather, so the automaker included an intercooler sprayer system that sprays water at the push of a button to help cool the engine.

The GR Supra Is A BMW In Disguise

Before you get upset at the header, know that the entire car isn’t purely a BMW. Yes, its engine and other mechanical components are sourced from BMW, but much of the GR Supra is made by Toyota. If it matters to you that much, know that the GRMN Corolla is pure Toyota from the ground up.

Powering the GR Supra is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 – the same B58 engine found in the BMW Z4 among other models – that makes 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque no matter the trim level. All trims, including the Final Edition, can be optioned with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic that sends power to the rear wheels. According to independent testing, those equipped with a manual transmission can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in about 4.3 seconds, while the automatic shaves off three-tenths of a second. Both are limited to a top speed of 155 mph.

Toyota made the GR Supra track-ready by giving the base model standard Brembo brakes, an active rear sport differential, chassis braces in the engine bay, a dual-tip exhaust, and it (like the GRMN Corolla) it comes with a 1-year complimentary National Auto Sport Association (NASA) membership with a high-performance driving experience.

The Final Edition gets some upgrades over the regular trims. These include upgraded performance dampers with adaptive variable suspension, larger brake rotors and calipers, carbon-fiber ducktail spoiler and front spats, and some cosmetic differences.

Maintenance Costs For Track Cars Can Be Steep

One of the most important factors when deciding which car to buy is how much you’ll have to pay down the road for maintenance and repairs. There’s some nuance to the deliberation this time, though; driving a car to its limits on the track with any regularity will result in parts wearing out more quickly. The GRMN Corolla is meant for just that. We can let you know that sources like CarEdge have data on the regular GR Corolla to support an average of $1,541 in maintenance and repairs over the course of five years on the road, but you’ll likely spend more if you drive it like it’s meant to be driven.

That said, the GR Supra isn’t too much worse. Despite its BMW-sourced powertrain, the coupe comes in at $1,814 for maintenance and repairs in its first five years of ownership. That’s only 4% of its total five-year ownership costs, of which the largest categories are insurance costs and depreciation.

On the note of depreciation, Toyota models like these two tend to hold value better than their competition. CarEdge’s data shows the GR Supra only loses about 23% of its value after five years of service. The GR Corolla depreciates by 32% in the same timeframe. However, since the GRMN model is limited to 730 units around the world, we expect rarity, combined with its cool factor and upgraded parts list, to slow its depreciation rate, if not boost its value on the used market initially.

    GRMN Removes Some Hatchback Practicality

In order to make the GRMN Corolla more of a sports car than a traditional hot hatch, the automaker removed the rear seats and installed BRIN NAUB sport bucket seats for the driver and passenger. Other interior changes include a carbon-fiber-trimmed instrument panel with Morizo’s signature (Toyota chairman and master driver), brushed metal accents, and special “cast iron” black paint on some surfaces.

There may be a lack of rear seats in the name of saving weight, but the GRMN isn’t totally devoid of creature comforts. For example, it still has an 8-inch Toyota infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is also standard. We can’t forget that it’s still a usable hatchback, since it can hold 36.6 cubic feet of cargo. It loses practicality by limiting the seating capacity to two people, but you can still pick up the groceries with it.

The GR Supra Is Still A Comfortable, Yet Sporty Coupe

The GR Supra doesn’t try to be practical in any particular way — it’s a two-seat sports car, so buyers shouldn’t expect cargo room or much interior space in general. However, all three trims are still plenty comfortable with modern tech and some nice features. Firstly, it comes with a 14-way power adjustable driver’s seat in the base model, heated seats, and the base trim and Final Edition come with leather/Alcántara upholstery (the Premium trim comes with all leather, skipping the Alcántara). The engineers even thought about how the driver would brace themselves while taking tight turns, so they included a knee support cushion.

All three trims come with an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster. The base model has an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, while the two higher trims make it a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and other features. The higher trims also get a 12-speaker JBL audio system, which is an upgrade over the regular 10-speaker system in the base model. As for cargo space, the GR Supra has a 10.2-cubic-foot trunk, which is technically larger than its direct rival, the Nissan Z.

Choosing Between Two Limited Models Isn’t Easy

At the end of the day, your decision may have been made for you simply because the GRMN Corolla is so limited. There aren’t many to go around, so buyers might be guided toward the GR Supra anyway. That said, the GR Supra is about to be discontinued after this model year. No matter your preference, you’ll have to act quickly to buy a new example. Otherwise, used GR Supras are budget cars these days.
