Toyota’s Toughest Off-Roaders Get ‘Honey’ Roasted For 2027

Die-hard Toyota fans know that each year, the company gives its hardcore TRD Pro off-roaders a special color. This year, the flagship 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia trim levels are going for something a bit more buzzworthy than usual, with a deep metallic gold called Honeycomb on the pickups and fullsize SUV and a similar color called Hot Honey on the 4Runner. Alongside the trim-exclusive color, Toyota also announced some updates for the big boys, coinciding with their 2027 facelift.

    Carrying On The Tradition

The new TRD Pro color scheme is the latest entry in a long line of single-year offerings. Replacing 2026’s Wave Maker as the unique color, Honeycomb and Hot Honey will help the off-roaders stand out among the rest of the trim level’s color choices, which for last year included white, black, and gray – those who want to swim outside of the grayscale mainstream have but one option.

The difference between Honeycomb (offered on the Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia) and Hot Honey (4Runner only) is difficult to parse in the images that Toyota provided. We presume they aren’t offered in the same color because the smaller SUV is the only one assembled outside North America, while the Tundra and Sequoia are built in Texas and the Tacoma in Mexico (for now).

Previous TRD-exclusive colors included a warm gray called Mudbath in 2025, the brick-red Terra from 2024, a retina-searing Lime Rush in 2022, and the legendary Voodoo Blue in 2019 – marking the hue’s return to the Toyota lineup after being introduced on the FJ Cruiser in 2007.

    Slight Revisions For The Fullsizers

Toyota announced some of the updates it would make to the 2027 Tundra and its Sequoia SUV sibling last week, but they largely amounted to the arrival of a budget-friendly Trailhunter off-road model and a larger standard infotainment screen. The Honeycomb color announcement gave the automaker the chance to spell out some of the other changes the flagship truck and sport-ute would receive as well. Basically, new suspension components will help the big Tundra and Sequoia cope with faster off-road travel without performance degradation. Some styling tweaks show up as well.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

Toyota’s TRD Pro color program is a relatively simple way to turn each model year into something of a special edition, and it also gives the automaker a chance to experiment with new shades and hues on vehicles that already attract a more exuberant crowd. If the reception is positive, Toyota occasionally will bring back its best colors on other models in the future, as it did with Cavalry Blue on the 2023 Camry sedan. That dusty light blue originally debuted on the 2018 TRD Pro lineup, and buyer response was strong enough for the automaker to keep it in its back pocket for the future.

The Hot Honey 4Runner and Honeycomb Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia will be some of the only yellowToyotas in history, joining the likes of the special 2026 GR86 Yuzu Edition and the series-produced Nitro Yellow GR Supra, as well as the historic Toyota MR2 and youthful Matrix of the 2000s. As proponents of brightly colored vehicles, we at CarBuzz love to see it.
