BYD (HKEX: 1211) has released design sketches of its new flagship sedan, the Da Han (Great Han or Grand Han), as it continues to build anticipation ahead of the model’s debut.
Lu Tian, general manager of sales for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, shared 3 design sketches on Weibo on Friday, showing the vehicle from the side, front and rear.
“Sharpness concealed in stillness, luxury revealed through simplicity,” Lu wrote. “Good design needs no explanation. The lines speak for themselves.”
The sketches show a sedan with elongated proportions, a fastback-style roofline and a low-slung stance, along with a small rear spoiler.
Lu said the model will make its first public appearance at the Chengdu Auto Show in August. The 29th Chengdu Auto Show will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan province, from August 21 to 30.
The Da Han is the first D-segment flagship sedan in BYD’s Dynasty lineup. Positioned above the existing Han flagship sedan, it represents the latest effort by China’s largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker to move upmarket.
The vehicle measures 5,256 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, according to regulatory filings released last month by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
BYD filed 3 versions of the model, including 2 battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants and 1 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant.
The single-motor BEV version has a peak motor output of 370 kW. The all-wheel-drive BEV uses a dual-motor setup, with front and rear motors producing 200 kW and 370 kW, respectively.
The PHEV version is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and has a drive motor with a maximum output of 200 kW.
The Da Han BEV is equipped with a 102.326-kWh battery pack weighing 725.9 kg, with an energy density of 141 Wh/kg.
BYD Da Han’s battery and range
The single-motor version has a CLTC range of up to 1,008 kilometers and a curb weight of 2,260 kg or 2,325 kg. The all-wheel-drive version has a range of up to 880 kilometers and a curb weight of 2,505 kg.
The PHEV version is equipped with a 54.489-kWh battery pack and has an electric-only range of 370 kilometers.
All 3 versions use BYD’s Blade Battery based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The batteries are expected to be the company’s second-generation Blade Battery, which supports ultra-fast flash charging.
The Da Han and the Da Tang SUV will form a pair of flagship models for the Dynasty lineup, targeting the premium market.
The Da Tang is the Dynasty lineup’s first D-segment flagship SUV and was launched on June 17 with prices ranging from 239,900 yuan ($35,310) to 309,900 yuan.
The Da Tang EV has a range of up to 950 kilometers, which BYD says makes it the world’s longest-range full-size SUV. Deliveries began last month, and the model reached its 10,000th delivery on Thursday.
The current Seal 06 EV was launched in June 2025 with a starting price of 109,800 yuan ($16,170) and BYD’s LiDAR-free God’s Eye C driver-assistance system.
