BYD (HKEX: 1211) has brought its Seal 05 DM-i hybrid sedan to Mexico, where it is being marketed as the all-new BYD King.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker officially launched the model in Mexico on July 16, making it the second vehicle the company has introduced in the market within 3 months, following the Yuan Pro DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV.
The BYD King features the company’s fifth-generation DM (dual mode) technology and offers a combined range of up to 1,680 kilometers under the NEDC testing cycle, setting a new range record for plug-in hybrid sedans in Mexico, according to a statement on Monday.
The vehicle is equipped with a 15.6-inch rotating central display and supports features including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Google Gemini-powered intelligent voice control.
The BYD King was first launched in Mexico in April 2024, when the model was based on the China-market Chaser 05.
Since entering the Mexican market, the BYD King has attracted a large number of consumers with its fuel efficiency and become one of the country’s best-selling plug-in hybrid models, BYD said.
The launch of the all-new BYD King marks an important step in BYD’s efforts to deepen its presence in Mexico, Jorge Vallejo, passenger-vehicle sales director at BYD Mexico, said at the launch event.
BYD launched the Yuan Pro DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV in Mexico on April 10. The compact SUV also uses the company’s DM-i hybrid technology and offers a combined range of up to 1,045 kilometers.
BYD management said at an analyst briefing earlier this year that it was confident of reaching its target of exporting 1.5 million vehicles in 2026.
That figure is 15% higher than BYD’s previously announced overseas sales target of 1.3 million vehicles, as the company seeks to use growth in international markets to offset weaker demand in China.
BYD shares surged Monday, boosted by reports that its Brazil plant secured orders for 100,000 vehicles from Argentina and Mexico.
