- BYD Qin Max is the new flagship model in the Qin family, positioned above the Qin L, and is expected to be offered in BEV and PHEV variants.
- The Qin series is one of BYD’s best-selling model lines, though its sales have declined significantly this year.
BYD (HKEX: 1211) has released official images of a new sedan, the Qin Max, which will become the flagship model in its popular Qin family.
The all-new B-class sedan, aimed at younger consumers, supports flash charging and is positioned above the Qin L, Lu Tian, head of sales for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, said Monday on Weibo.
Lu said the model is the “extra-large” version of the Qin family and the flash charging-capable Qin that many internet users have been calling for, though he did not disclose launch timing or pricing information.
Flash charging is BYD’s term for its latest ultra-fast charging technology. In March 2025, the company unveiled its Super e-Platform, which supports megawatt-level flash charging with peak charging power of up to 1,000 kW.
In March this year, the company released a new-generation flash charging technology, with single-gun charging power of up to 1,500 kW, enabling vehicles equipped with its second-generation Blade Battery to charge from 10% to 97% in only 9 minutes.
The Qin Max previously appeared in a filing catalog from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, including both BEV and PHEV versions. Lu’s Weibo post today did not mention the model’s powertrain options.
The car measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, according to previous filing information.
For reference, the Qin L measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.
The BEV version of the Qin Max is powered by BYD motors with peak power of 240 kW (322 hp) or 120 kW.
The PHEV version is powered by a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor, with the engine delivering maximum power of 74 kW and the motor delivering maximum power of 175 kW.
The BEV version of the Qin Max can also be fitted with “Da Qin” or “Qin Ultra” rear badges, its filing information showed.
The Qin family currently on sale includes the Qin Plus and Qin L, both offered in BEV and PHEV versions. The addition of the Qin Max will expand the family to 3 models.
The Qin series is one of BYD’s best-selling model lines, with 661,090 units sold in 2025, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
However, the series’ sales have declined significantly this year, with June sales at 14,900 units, down 66.17% year-on-year.
In the first half of this year, Qin series sales totaled 149,174 units, down 45.62% year-on-year.
