Maybe you’ve heard too often that the average price of a new car still hovers around the $50,000 mark. That’s a lot of cash for a depreciating asset, and if you are buying a luxury car, you are likely to lose even more within the first three to five years. Yet, what if we said that you can find a new luxury car for less than the average car? There are a select few compact premium models on the market that still give you the luxury feel without requiring you to stomach exorbitant prices.

These small luxury cars still offer upscale cabins, high-tech features, and the badge appeal of their more expensive counterparts for a lot less cash. For our ten-entry list, the smaller the better, and no option exceeds $45,000 MSRP. We’ll break down each entry in ascending price order.

    2026 Acura Integra

    MSRP: $33,400

The 2026 Acura Integra has the distinct honor of being one of the most affordable luxury cars on the market. In terms of overall value for the price, the Integra is hard to beat in this segment. At the starting price, you get a 200-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo-four in a sleek and stylish liftback body.

The liftback design is key here, because despite its compact size, the Integra is highly functional. The cavernous liftback can swallow a full-sized bike with ease with the 60/40 split rear seats folded down, without you having to worry about your interior or your bike getting scratched or damaged. If you do opt for the $39,200 A-Spec with Technology trim, a manual-transmission option becomes available. The A-Spec and Type S Integra are among the last luxury cars still available with a manual transmission, making this Acura sedan a significant enthusiast-focused outlier in this segment.

    2026 Cadillac CT4

    MSRP: $36,000

The 2026 Cadillac CT4 is another interesting outlier in the compact luxury sedan market. American sedans are somewhat a product of a bygone era, and the CT4 is the last of its kind.

Starting at $36,000, you get a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine producing 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with power sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Despite its executive look, the CT4 still makes an effort to emphasize driver engagement with its Driver Mode Selector, which allows for full customization via the ‘My Mode’ configuration. Anything from steering, braking, acceleration feel, responsiveness, and more can be adjusted to your exact liking. Other great standard features include wireless phone charging, along with heated seats and a heated steering wheel.

    2026 Lexus UX

    MSRP: $38,850

The 2026 Lexus UX is a quirky-looking crossover that provides impressive fuel economy while providing the SUV driving experience so many shoppers desire. Strictly speaking, the UX is more of a lifted hatchback than a proper SUV.

Yet once you realize it achieves 43 mpg combined while still providing 196 horsepower from its 2.0-liter inline-four hybrid powertrain, you understand the appeal of this small Lexus crossover. Driving mode adjustability is available with Drive Mode Select, allowing configuration for either Sport, Normal, or Eco drive modes. The build quality of the UX is second to none, despite this being the Japanese luxury brand’s most affordable offering. If you drop the rear seats, you can fit a full-size bike in the back without removing the front wheel. However, adult rear seat passengers may not have the most enjoyable experience on multi-hour rides because of the compact nature of the UX.

    2027 Mini Countryman S ALL4

    MSRP: $38,900

If the 2027 Mini Countryman S ALL4 deserves any accolade, it’s for being the most fun to drive on this list. The base model S ALL4 provides impressive performance and engagement while still being a functional compact crossover.

The 2.0-liter B48 turbo-four produces 241 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and is a delight to experience, especially when mated to the quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A manual transmission option is not offered, because this is still a family-friendly crossover with a sporty soul, not an outright enthusiast car. With standard AWD and 27 mpg combined, you can’t fault the Countryman’s all-around capability. The interior is one of the unique offerings on the market, and its novel design feels refreshing considering most of its rivals stick to more conventional layouts.

    2026 Audi A3

    MSRP: $40,100

If you miss compact cars that actually look and function like an actual compact, look no further than the 2026 Audi A3. This Audi sedan may be small, but it feels like a premium German luxury experience from the first drive.

The 2.0-liter turbo-four powering the Audi produces 201 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels. What is truly impressive is how quietly and seamlessly this turbo engine operates. Not fast per se, but it still doesn’t feel underpowered. In a car of this size that is light and nimble, it feels like the perfect powertrain. Standard features include a panoramic sunroof, Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus, and the significantly updated MMI touch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Rear legroom may not be its strong suit, but as long as you keep that in mind, this Audi sedan has a lot to offer.

    2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale

    MSRP: $40,745

Front 3/4 view of the 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale parkedAlfa Romeo

The 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale is a luxury compact SUV with an Italian attitude. Of all the compact luxury cars on this list, the Tonale certainly offers the best paint colors, with options like Verde Fangio Metallic looking like a finish reserved for only the most exotic vehicles.

Rear 3/4 view of the 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale parkedAlfa Romeo

Powering the Tonale is a 268-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Yet, are the Tonale’s good looks and strong performance enough to make it special? Drive one, and you might be convinced. With its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, the Tonale looks both sleek and modern.

The gear shifter is perhaps the only part of the interior that feels slightly outdated. However, you won’t care too much about it while enjoying the quality of the leather-trimmed heated steering wheel. The Tonale offers more legroom than a 2026 BMW X1 or a 2026 Audi Q3, while providing the same legroom as a 2026 Mercedes GLA-Class.

    2026 Volvo XC40

    MSRP: $41,295

Front 3/4 shot of 2026 Volvo XC40 parkedVolvo

The 2026 Volvo XC40 delivers that premium feeling you want and expect out of a luxury SUV while remaining below the cost of an average new car. The XC40 delivers more than meets the eye by providing strong performance, quality, and functionality all in one simple yet elegant package. What is a little disappointing is that if you want the full 247 horsepower from the 2.0-liter turbo-four, you have to opt for the $2,700 AWD upgrade. Considering there is only a one mpg difference between the standard FWD variant and the AWD model, it is a no-brainer to opt for the more capable and more powerful variant.

The interior excels at Scandinavian minimalism, but does not lack functionality with built-in Google apps, wireless charging, and adaptive cruise control. The foldable trunk floor can function as both a divider to separate loads and as a hook system for your grocery bags. There aren’t too many optional packages to consider, but if you want a panoramic roof on the base Core trim, that’s going to be $1,000 extra.

    2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe

    MSRP: $42,200

2025 BMW 2 Series front 3/4 shotBMW USA

The 2026 BMW 2 Series Coupe is one of the few compact luxury coupe models available on the market. The base trim 2026 230i is not exactly cheap at $42,200 starting MSRP, so what does it offer that its competitors don’t?

    2025 BMW 2 SeriesBMW USA

While most of its direct rivals have moved on to either FWD or AWD platforms, the 230i remains a true two-door RWD coupe focused on driving dynamics. Indeed, the driving experience is second to none, with its 255-horsepower turbo-four providing more than enough power to get you grinning, backed by a responsive chassis that is ready to attack any corner. What we don’t like is that any color except Alpine White is going to cost you at least $650 extra.

Thundernight Metallic is a great color, however. If you want additional performance for your 230i, all you have to do is pay for it. The $850 M Sport Professional Package includes M Sport brakes for increased stopping power. If that isn’t enough, the $1,850 M Sport trim includes more aggressive bumpers, exclusive 18-inch wheels, the M steering wheel, variable steering, M Sport suspension, along with the option for a $1,300 M Sport differential.

    2026 Mercedes CLA 250 Coupe

    MSRP: $42,750

The 2026 Mercedes CLA 250 Coupe is certainly not the most affordable option on our list, but it has no shortage of premium features for its price. Considering this coupe is actually a four-door sedan, you can enjoy all the benefits of the luxury experience without sacrificing practicality.

    2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA rear 3/4 shotTopSpeed | Michael Frank

The CLA 250 Coupe’s standout feature has to be the full-width MBUX Superscreen, which is a spectacle to behold. If you don’t like panoramic screens with AI integration, this is the wrong car. As far as being a comfortable commuter, you can’t go wrong. The 221-horsepower turbo-four is smooth as butter and achieves 36 mpg highway. Suspension damping, cabin quietness, and overall comfort are second to none at its price point. The swooping roofline certainly makes this Mercedes sedan look good, but it is a hindrance to rear seat spaciousness. With seven additional optional packages, the CLA 250 Coupe can be upgraded further to your heart’s delight to craft the ultimate compact Mercedes experience.

    2026 Genesis G70

    MSRP: $43,450

Tracking shot of Blue 2026 Genesis G70Genesis

You probably didn’t think that the most expensive option on our list would be a Korean sedan: the 2026 Genesis G70. However, this is the most affordable and smallest non-SUV model offered by Genesis. From the outset, you know the G70 means business with its 2.5-liter turbo-four producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque while still offering 29 mpg highway. Functionally, its performance capabilities are similar to the 2026 BMW 330i, but the 3 Series beats it when it comes to back seat legroom and cargo space.

When it comes to interior quality, the G70 takes a more traditional approach with fewer screens and more tactile analog buttons. What you won’t get standard in a 3 Series are four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo brakes, which provide impressive baseline stopping power across all trims. Most importantly, the G70 gives you access to Genesis’ ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty paired with three years of complimentary maintenance that ensures your ownership experience is as pain-free as possible.
