Roush Performance is expanding its factory-backed truck footprint once again, this time with the 2027 Ram 1500 Direct Connection by Roush. After years of being closely associated with Ford trucks and more recently branching into the Nissan Frontier world, Roush has now turned its attention to Ram’s full-size pickup. The result is a V8-powered off-road appearance and performance package that gives Ram buyers something with more attitude than a standard Big Horn, while offering a HEMI alternative to the Hurricane-powered Ram 1500 RHO.
The Direct Connection by Roush starts with a 2027 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4×4 Crew Cab equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8, 3.92 rear axle ratio, and Level II equipment group. Before Roush adds its own hardware, Ram’s Direct Connection package already brings plenty to the table, including the Sport Performance hood, Night Edition blackout treatment, skid plates, Mopar leather seats, TRX-style running boards, surround-view camera, electronic locking rear differential, trailer-brake controller, and rear wheel-well liners.
Roush then gives the truck a more serious off-road stance with its Performance 2.0 Coil-Over suspension system, including twin-tube hydraulic dampers that help increase ground clearance. The factory 20-inch wheels are replaced by Roush-designed 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch General Grabber A/TX tires, giving the truck a tougher and more functional footprint. New fender flares with integrated clearance lights add to the wide-body look, while the ventilated hood gets additional visual flair that makes the truck stand apart quickly.
The exterior upgrades are not shy. The package includes graphics for the hood, lower doors, and tailgate, along with U.S. flag details on the bedsides. Up front, the grille gains three marker lights and a red-outlined Ram badge, while a color-matched bumper and red tow hooks complete the more aggressive face. Available colors include Bright White, Diamond Black Crystal Pearlcoat, Forged Blue Metallic, Granite Crystal Metallic, and Molten Red Pearlcoat. Inside, Roush adds branded floor mats and Direct Connection by Roush badging to reinforce that this is more than a regular Ram with a lift and tires.
One of the most appealing upgrades may be the sound. Roush fits the truck with an active cat-back exhaust system that lets the driver choose how much HEMI rumble gets through. With driver-selectable modes and black Roush-branded exhaust tips, the setup gives this Ram a personality that the turbocharged inline-six RHO simply cannot duplicate. There are no advertised horsepower gains, but for many truck buyers, the 5.7-liter HEMI’s character remains a major part of the appeal.
The Roush package costs $15,995, and when added to the required Ram 1500 Big Horn configuration, the total comes to around $80,300. That puts it slightly above the reported $78,085 starting price of the 2027 Ram 1500 RHO before options, which makes the value discussion interesting. The RHO brings more serious factory performance, but the Direct Connection by Roush counters with V8 sound, dealer-order convenience, off-road upgrades, and a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on Roush components. For Ram fans who still want a HEMI-powered truck with more presence and capability, this first Roush Ram could hit the right emotional note.
