The ninth-generation Toyota Camry first debuted for the 2025 model year, bringing a series of changes to the Camry platform alongside a major update to the design, both outside and inside, that brings the latest of Toyota’s design language to their famed midsize sedan model.
Both the full gasoline and gas hybrid variants of the Toyota Camry have been consolidated into one model for the latest iteration, with all trims featuring a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain onboard that can send power to the front or all four wheels. With the hybrid powertrain standard across the range, this also means the V6-powered Toyota Camry is no longer available, making all Camry models strictly powered by inline-four cylinder engines, and now only featuring the eCVT transmission; with the torque-converter-based automatic
transmission also discontinued from the Camry range.
For the 2026 model year, the ninth-gen Camry remains the same as it first debuted just two years prior, minus the addition of a new Nightshade trim, as well as a new exterior color, ‘Dark Cosmos,’ for all trims. Under the hood, the Camry XSE now produces up to 225 hp combined when sending power just to the front, with all-wheel-drive Camry XSE models bumping combined power output to 232 hp, thanks to the inclusion of an additional electric motor (three versus two). Camry XSE AWD models can also achieve 0–60 mph within less than seven seconds, somewhat decent numbers for a midsize commuter sedan.

The gas-only rivals offer 191 hp in the case of the base Kia K5, although you can upgrade to the 290-hp GT model. The 2026 Camry XSE offers the most horsepower, save for the turbocharged Mazda 3, and is most potent of the hybrid competitors mentioned here.
