Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) held the global debut of the G9L SUV (sport utility vehicle) on Tuesday, and opened pre-sales for the model, with prices starting at 259,800 yuan ($38,260).
The large 5-seat SUV is offered in 6 variants spanning EREV and BEV powertrains, with an 800-volt ultra-fast-charging platform standard across the lineup.
The EREV lineup consists of the 1602 AWD Ultra SE and 1602 AWD Ultra Flagship. The BEV lineup includes the 702 Max, 660 AWD Ultra SE, 660 AWD Ultra and 755 AWD Ultra Flagship.
During the pre-sales period, a 1,000 yuan deposit can be used to offset 3,000 yuan from the vehicle purchase price. Fjord Gray exterior paint, normally priced at 6,000 yuan, and Sahara Orange interior trim, normally priced at 3,000 yuan, are being offered free for a limited time.
The 21-inch Vortex wheels are available for a limited-time price of 3,000 yuan, down from 10,000 yuan, while the 22-inch Petal Sport wheels are priced at 6,000 yuan, down from 12,000 yuan.
The EREV version uses Xpeng’s latest-generation all-wheel-drive range-extender system, with a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender producing up to 110 kW. It is paired with a 63.3-kWh battery pack and a 60-liter fuel tank.
The model has a CLTC battery-only range of 435 kilometers and a combined range of 1,602 kilometers.
The BEV versions offer CLTC ranges of 660 kilometers, 702 kilometers and 755 kilometers. The AWD BEV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.45 seconds, while the AWD EREV takes 4.95 seconds.
Xpeng said the G9L can add 450 kilometers of range with 9 minutes of charging.
The G9L measures 5,120 millimeters in length and has a wheelbase of 3,100 millimeters. Its trunk offers 1,152 liters of cargo space, along with an additional 230-liter underfloor storage compartment.
On the intelligent-driving front, the vehicle is equipped with up to 3 Turing AI chips delivering 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power, and will debut a major upgraded version of Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model.
The cabin features an 88-inch augmented-reality head-up display, a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, a 33-speaker audio system and a 12.5-liter dual-temperature in-car refrigerator.
The seats use what Xpeng calls full-body AI active contouring technology, with as many as 91 pressure sensors and a sensing precision of 2 grams.
Zero-gravity seats in both the front and rear rows can recline simultaneously with 1 touch and can be converted into a flat bed measuring more than 1.8 meters long without removing the headrests.
The G9L and the 6-seat GX, launched in May, form Xpeng’s dual-flagship lineup, with the 2 models sharing key platform technologies.
The GX has a starting official price of 279,800 yuan in China, with a limited-time benefits price starting at 269,800 yuan.
The G9L will compete in China’s roughly 300,000 yuan vehicle market against models including Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI) Li L7 and the Huawei-backed Aito M7.
Xpeng delivered 38,027 vehicles globally in July, up 3.57% year-on-year and down 5.23% from June.
Deliveries in the first 7 months of the year totaled 204,004 vehicles, down 12.78% year-on-year.
Xpeng delivered 103,295 vehicles in the second quarter, within its earlier guidance range of 100,000 to 106,000 units.
