Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) officially launched its highly anticipated YU7 GT, marking the smartphone maker’s foray into a more premium automotive segment.
The high-performance sport utility vehicle starts at 389,900 yuan ($57,290). Consumers can also opt for a higher-spec version priced at 429,900 yuan.
That base price is 156,400 yuan, or 66.98%, higher than the new standard YU7, which was also added today and starts at 233,500 yuan.
The YU7 GT measures 5,015 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width, and 1,597 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. These dimensions represent an increase in length, width, and height compared to the standard YU7 currently on sale, though the wheelbase remains unchanged.
The standard YU7 measures 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide, and 1,608 mm high, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase.
The YU7 GT is equipped with Xiaomi’s next-generation HyperEngine V8s EVO. Its dual-motor system delivers a combined maximum output of 738 kilowatts, equivalent to 990 horsepower (1003 Ps).
The YU7 GT can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.92 seconds. It has a top speed of 300 km/h and offers a driving range of 705 kilometers.
The YU7 GT is specifically designed for modern elites, said Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, chairman, and chief executive officer.
To prove its ultimate performance, Xiaomi announced that the YU7 GT has broken the lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, completing the circuit in 7 minutes and 22.755 seconds.
This result is faster than the 7 minutes and 34.931 seconds Xiaomi announced just two days prior, cementing the YU7 GT’s title as the fastest production SUV in Nürburgring history.
Previously, the fastest SUV on the Nürburgring Nordschleife was the Audi RS Q8 Performance with a time of 7:36.698, followed by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT at 7:38.925.
In terms of exterior design, the vehicle features an aggressive front fascia and a massive carbon fiber rear spoiler. Buyers can even opt for a 24K gold carbon fiber badge.
The YU7 GT is equipped with the new Xiaomi Jiaolong Chassis Master Edition. This system includes dual-valve CDC shock absorbers and closed dual-chamber air springs for enhanced handling.
Alongside the GT model, Xiaomi also introduced the new standard YU7 at the same launch event. Priced at 233,500 yuan, this entry-level model lowers the barrier to ownership to further challenge Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.
The launch of the new models will further strengthen Xiaomi’s competitive position in the premium EV market. The Beijing-based company delivered 36,702 vehicles in April, up 28.40% year-on-year and 71.18% from March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
