    Xiaomi Auto monthly deliveries

    • Xiaomi Auto’s deliveries rose 9.65% in the first 8 months, reaching 44.8% of its 550,000-unit annual target.
    • Monthly deliveries must average about 75,881 over the final 4 months, making the newly launched Sky Nomad key to accelerating growth.

Xiaomi Auto, the car-making unit of Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810), delivered 30,153 vehicles in August, down 17.15% year-on-year, putting the onus on its newly launched extended-range SUV lineup to drive growth.

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) disclosed the figure in a report released Tuesday. Xiaomi had previously said only that deliveries exceeded 30,000 vehicles during the month.

August deliveries fell 3.56% from July, marking a second consecutive monthly decline. It was also the first year-on-year decrease since March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Still, Xiaomi delivered more than 30,000 vehicles for a fifth consecutive month. An August sales breakdown for the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV (sport utility vehicle) is not yet available.

Xiaomi Auto delivered 246,475 vehicles in the first 8 months of the year, up 9.65% year-on-year, slowing from 14.83% growth in the first 7 months.

That represents 44.8% of its annual target of 550,000 vehicles. To meet the goal, the company needs to deliver 303,525 vehicles in the final 4 months, averaging about 75,881 a month, or roughly 2.5 times August’s total.

Xiaomi launched the Sky Nomad series on Monday, entering the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) segment for the first time as it seeks to broaden its customer base.

The initial lineup includes the 5-seat N70 Pro and N70 Max, the 7-seat N90 Max and the 5-seat N90 Max Exploration Edition. Previously, Xiaomi’s automotive business relied on the all-electric SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV.

The company said locked-in orders for Sky Nomad exceeded 10,000 within 4 minutes of launch, but did not disclose a breakdown by version.

Xiaomi has produced an initial batch of vehicles in advance and said customers could take delivery within 1 to 5 weeks of locking in their orders. That positions the new series to contribute to sales during the remainder of the year.

Whether those initial orders translate into sustained delivery growth will depend on subsequent demand and the production ramp-up. The extended-range vehicle market Xiaomi is entering is also under pressure.

China’s retail sales of EREVs fell 15.85% year-on-year to 616,000 vehicles in the first 8 months, according to CPCA data.

Xiaomi Auto’s cumulative deliveries stood at 797,783 vehicles at the end of August, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. Its founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun said Monday that the total had surpassed 800,000.

Leapmotor and Zeekr continued to set records, while Xpeng and Li Auto returned to sequential growth.
