For the record, we know this new Jeep Wrangler Twelve 4 Twelve reveal isn’t happening on August 12, but eight days later on August 20. Jeep’s been debuting these tweaked Wranglers on the 12th for nearly a year, but this one was delayed for a very good reason. More on that in a bit.

So that brings us to the darkened Wrangler you see here. It’s called the Smoky Mountain Special Edition, named for one of America’s most iconic mountain ranges. It doesn’t have some of the heftier upgrades we’ve seen on previous Twelve 4 Twelve drops, but Wrangler fans do get some nice aesthetic upgrades that buyers just love. And best of all, there’s hardly any price increase for it.
A Wrangler Willys For The Smoky Mountain Rain

The Smoky Mountain Special Edition starts life as a 2027 Wrangler Willys, similar to the Sarge we saw back in June. That means standard-issue 33-inch tires with Dana 44 axles, a locking rear differential, a 4.10 axle ratio, and steel rock rails. Under the hood is either the standard 3.6-liter V6 or the zero-option 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. But, if you want the Smoky Mountain edition, you must have the four-door Wrangler with an automatic transmission.
In essence, the upgrades amount to a blackout package. The 17-inch wheels are black and “inspired by the mist-covered peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains.” The iconic grille is gloss black. On the hood, special “Smoky Mountain” branding is added. All models get body-colored fender flares and a hardtop, and if those 33-inch tires aren’t big enough, you can opt for 35 inchers. But what’s special about the inside?
Small Touches With A Kiss Of Color

The Smoky Mountain Wranglers get more blackness for the interior, starting with the cloth seats that have embossed parachutes, identifying them as part of the Twelve 4 Twelve drop. There’s a smoked finish on anodized carbon trim rings, a darker shifter with a gray metallic and satin chrome finish, and to jazz things up a bit, Jeep adds Terracotta accent stitching. At the back, there’s one more parachute, this time on a special plaque identifying the Wrangler as a legit Smoky Mountain off-roader.
Creature comforts include heated seats and a heated wheel, both of which are standard equipment here. There’s also dual-zone climate control for those times when you’re not adventuring with the roof open. And there’s a universal garage door that thankfully doesn’t require a subscription to use.
More Than Just A Smoky Mountain Theme?

While the Great Smoky Mountains are certainly a famous destination, this special edition Wrangler is also a hat-tip to Smoky Mountain Invasion – an event that brings in thousands of Jeep owners for a weekend of general Jeep tomfoolery. As you can probably guess, Smoky Mountain Invasion 2026 is happening this weekend, and Jeep is there to unveil this new model to folks who want it most.

And now for the news Jeep enthusiasts want to hear. Though it’s a special edition, Jeep makes no mention of production numbers and order books are open now. As for price, the Smoky Mountain package adds a whopping $80 to the sticker. Of course, the overall final price depends on how you spec-up your Willys, but getting all the Smoky Mountain bits is basically the equivalent of a nice dinner for two.

We’re just about to the end of Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve Wrangler run. The Smoky Mountain Special Edition is number 10, and we can’t help wondering what Jeep has in store to bring this saga home. Most of the packages have been mild, like this one. But we’ve seen Jeep expand its Hemi V8 to new, lower-priced trims.
Could Jeep finally do the unthinkable before all is said and done? Could an honest-to-goodness Wrangler SRT Hellcat put an exclamation point on this marketing campaign? We’ll certainly be watching with interest in October, but there’s still one other drop to go before the grand finale. Stay tuned.
