It’s pretty well established that a cooldown in desire for EVs is a little overblown; there’s plenty of excitement for new, reasonably priced EV models. But the fact of the matter is, there have been some winners and losers in our EV market.
That’s how you get the recent cancellation of cars like the Kia EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 6, (except for the Ioniq 6 N), the latter of which has been a comparatively slow seller when viewed against its mechanical sibling, the Ioniq 5.
But the upside of slow sales is that if you’re looking for the most bang for your buck, these models can make for some crazy deals. The Ioniq 6 might be one of the best EV deals in the country right now—and that’s saying a lot, given the sorts of secondhand bargains we’re seeing. No matter where you are in the country, it’s not hard to find a relatively low-mileage Ioniq 6 in the high teens to low $20,000 range. Oh, and these aren’t base models, either.

There’s a lot to like about the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Underneath, it uses the same E-GMP electric vehicle platform used on a gaggle of electric car shapes from the Hyundai Motor Group, like the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Genesis GV60, and even bigger ones like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9.
The Ioniq 6’s almost roach-like styling wasn’t always everyone’s cup of tea, but it is aerodynamic and functional. Out of all of Hyundai’s recent EV efforts, the Ioniq 6 has been the range leader. The SE trim in single-motor, rear-wheel-drive form is one of the most efficient EVs on sale in the U.S., according to the EPA, only beaten by the Lucid Air.
That variant of the Ioniq 6 is EPA-rated for a stunning 361 miles of range from its 77.4 kWh battery. At the prices we’re seeing, that some of the best range for your buck on the used electric market. There’s almost nothing with over 350 miles of range that you can get for this cheap. It’s just Tesla Model 3s, which are typically older, and Fisker Oceans, which have their own mountain of issues.

There’s a fairly wide selection of Ioniq 6 examples to choose from. According to Cars.com, there are about 500 units in stock across the country. There is a pretty even mix of single motor RWD and dual motor AWD examples, split between both SE and SEL trims.
Keep in mind there is a somewhat significant range penalty when AWD and larger wheels are equipped; the SEL AWD models are only rated for 270 miles of range. There are a few standard range models in the mix, but the 240-mile range from its 53 kWh battery also comes with a kind of puny 149 horsepower motor, so I’d probably avoid that one.
These listings kind of emphasize why Hyundai is only going to offer the Ioniq 6 N for 2026 and onward. It’s not hard to find new 2023 and 2024 models on dealership lots, unregistered and never sold. Yes, you’ve read that right—some dealerships are selling brand new three-year-old cars. The price difference between that and a new Ioniq 5 (or gently used Ioniq 6) is still somewhat big. Some dealerships are cutting prices down to match the 2025 model year’s cars, though.

Of course, the Ioniq 6’s controversial styling and sedan body aren’t for everyone. The Ioniq 5’s useful hatchback crossover shape does make it more practical compared to the Ioniq 6. However, the Ioniq 6’s price advantage on the used market and its superior range compared to other Hyundai or Kia EVs, could be a suitable trade-off.
Heck, maybe I’ll pick one up myself this weekend.
