Subaru is delaying the 3-row Getaway EV, following Toyota

Subaru confirmed that production of the Getaway EV is being delayed, following Toyota’s decision to delay its first three-row electric SUV.

Why is Subaru delaying the Getaway EV?

We had a feeling the Getaway was next in line after Toyota delayed production of its first three-row electric SUV, the 2027 Highlander, earlier this month.

Subaru confirmed the delay, telling Carscoops in a statement that “The start of production for the Getaway is expected to be delayed to allow sufficient time for final adjustments before launch.”

Toyota said the same thing just weeks ago, claiming it was making “additional adjustments to the vehicle prior to launch.”

While Subaru didn’t offer any other details, the Getaway EV (which we already got a sneak preview of) will likely face at least an eight-week delay, like the electric Highlander. The Getaway was expected to go on sale by the end of 2026, with production set to begin this fall.

Given that the Getaway and Highlander are both based on the modified TNGA-K EV platform and will be built at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Kentucky, the delay doesn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s the first time Subaru has publicly confirmed it, though.

Like Toyota, Subaru now sells three electric SUVs in the US, including the updated Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted.

The 3-row Getaway could still go into production by the end of the year. It’s still expected to go on sale in late 2026 or early 2027.

When it does go on sale, the 2027 Subaru Getaway will be powered by a 95.8 kWh battery that provides a driving range of over 300 miles on a single charge. Subaru said a standard model with a 77 kWh battery would go on sale in 2027.

Inside, the three-row electric SUV offers six- and seven-seat configurations with up to 45.6 cubic feet of cargo space, more than the Kia EV9.

All Getaway models come with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, 8.3″ of ground clearance, and an NACS charge port. With charging speeds of up to 150 kW, the Getaway can recharge from 10% to 80% in as little as 30 minutes.

The dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain delivers 420 horsepower, enabling a 0 to 60 mph time in under 5 seconds with a towing capacity of up to 3,500 lbs.

Like Toyota, Subaru’s new electric SUVs are selling surprisingly well in the US. Through the first half of the year, Subaru has sold 5,137 Solterras, 2,491 Uncharted, and 2,436 Trailseeker models.
