If you grew up playing Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo or spent countless quarters at the local arcade, there’s a good chance you remember the infamous bonus stage where your favorite fighter was tasked with destroying a perfectly innocent car. Whether you were throwing punches with Ryu, delivering kicks with Chun-Li, or unleashing Guile’s signature attacks, that poor sedan never stood a chance. Now, more than three decades later, one of gaming’s most recognizable automotive victims has made the jump from 16-bit graphics into the real world. As we discovered over at Car and Driver, a custom-built Lexus LS400 has been transformed into a remarkably faithful recreation of the classic Street Fighter II bonus-stage car, and the best part is that someone will actually get to take it home.

For those who need a refresher, the original Street Fighter II bonus stage challenged players to completely demolish a parked sedan before time ran out. Although the vehicle was never officially identified as a Lexus in the game, its design closely resembled the first-generation Lexus LS400, the Japanese luxury sedan that helped establish Lexus as a serious competitor to European luxury brands in the early 1990s. It’s a somewhat amusing choice considering the LS400 was celebrated for its exceptionally smooth 4.0-liter V8 engine, impressive build quality, and outstanding refinement. None of those qualities mattered much when a virtual martial arts master was kicking its doors off. Still, the car became an unforgettable part of gaming culture, and its return is perfectly timed with the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, scheduled to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.

Bringing this unusual piece of gaming nostalgia to life required some serious automotive creativity. The project was handled by Vehicle Effects, a company with extensive experience building specialty vehicles for Hollywood productions, including cars featured in the Fast & Furious franchise. Rather than simply wrapping an old Lexus in video game graphics, the team transformed a 1994 LS400 into something that genuinely looks like it escaped from an old-school arcade cabinet. The exterior features a striking pixelated design that mimics the blocky appearance of the original game, complemented by custom trim pieces and modified factory wheels. Underneath all that retro styling, however, sits a genuine rear-wheel-drive Lexus luxury sedan with its original-style 4.0-liter V8 powertrain. It’s the kind of automotive creation that looks completely ridiculous in the best possible way, especially when you realize it is a real, functional vehicle rather than a movie prop.

The attention to detail continues inside, where Vehicle Effects incorporated several clever touches that longtime Street Fighter fans will immediately appreciate. Most notably, the headrests feature embroidered “YOU WIN” lettering, referencing the familiar victory message displayed after completing a fight. There’s also an arcade-inspired coin holder integrated into the center console where the heated-seat controls would normally reside. Custom upholstery adds another layer of personality to an interior that was originally designed around traditional Japanese luxury and comfort. That’s part of what makes this build particularly entertaining. The first-generation LS400 was never intended to be flashy or attention-grabbing, yet this example might be one of the most recognizable and conversation-starting Lexus sedans ever created.

Of course, this isn’t simply a promotional vehicle destined to spend the rest of its life sitting in a studio warehouse. The General auto insurance company has partnered with the Street Fighter promotion to give the customized Lexus away through its Bonus Stage Break Sweepstakes. The grand prize includes the 1994 Lexus LS400 along with an additional $25,400.69 in cash, bringing the total estimated prize value to an eye-opening $95,116.94. The sweepstakes runs through November 18, 2026, with eligibility restricted to qualifying U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old and licensed drivers. Several states are excluded, so anyone interested in entering should review the official rules. Considering how much attention a pixelated Lexus would attract at a car show, Cars and Coffee gathering, or even an ordinary grocery store parking lot, there’s no question that the eventual winner will have something genuinely special in the garage.

What makes this whole project so appealing is how it brings together two very different kinds of automotive nostalgia. On one side is the original Lexus LS400, a landmark luxury sedan that helped redefine expectations for reliability, comfort, and engineering excellence. On the other is a video game that defined an entire generation of arcade entertainment. Combining the two might sound like an unlikely idea, but the result is a wonderfully quirky celebration of both. We’ve seen plenty of movie-inspired custom cars over the years, but turning a vehicle best remembered for getting beaten into scrap metal into a desirable collector’s piece is something else entirely. If we were lucky enough to win this Lexus, there’s one thing we’d be certain of: nobody would be allowed to practice their Hadouken anywhere near it.
