The regular Ford F-150 Raptor is no slouch in the performance department, its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 putting out 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet. But its reintroduction in 2017 set off yet another arms race in the truck world, starting with the Hellcat-powered, 702-hp 2021 Ram 1500 TRX and then the 720-hp Ford F-150 Raptor R. The once and future king returns soon, with the 2027 TRX boasting 777 horses from its blown 6.2-liter V8, unfortunately for Blue Oval fanboys, their long-travel super truck can’t quite match that grunt. If you’re dead set on owning an F-150 Raptor but can’t stomach losing the spec-chart race, Shelby has a solution in the 1,000-hp Baja Raptor R.

Keeping Things Tame (For A Shelby)
The 2026 Baja Raptor family includes two models. The “entry-level” example soldiers on with Ford’s EcoBoost V6, but Shelby’s careful tuning uncorks the mill to the tune of 555 horses, an increase of 105 from the stock F-150. An open-air intake, high-flow air filter, oversized intake tube, and Borla exhaust help the boosted six-cylinder breathe a little better, and it rides on 37-inch tires mounted on two-tone 18-inch wheels, with an unspecified lift kit providing even more clearance under the truck. The Baja Raptor also gets a custom grille (complete with Shelby’s signature cobra badge) and a vented air induction hood.

The package also includes an Addictive Desert Designs high-clearance front bumper, complete with pod lights and a 30-inch lightbar. ADD also supplies the rear bumper, which is fitted with 10-inch reverse LED lights. Furthermore, the Baja Raptor has two full-size spare tires and tire mounts, just in case the meaty BFGoodrich KM3 mud tires catch a piece of shale scree in the sidewall. Nothing in life is free, however, and the V6-powered Shelby Baja Raptor has a base price of $146,795 including the 2026 F-150 upon which it’s based.
That’s $64,995 more than the regular Raptor, but then again, getting 37s from Ford will add another 11 grand to the price, while aftermarket accessories, like the nearly $3,000 bumper, certainly add up, so if you already wanted all that stuff, might as well let Shelby do it for you and enjoy the added power.

If maximum power is the goal, you might want to consider the 2026 Shelby Ford F-150 Baja Raptor R. As its name suggests, it takes motive force from the 5.2-liter V8 found in the regular F-150 Raptor R, but in place of the Ford Racing supercharger, the Baja Raptor gets a Whipple 3.8-liter blower that boosts power from 720 to 1,000 hp. The Shelby kit also includes billet throttle body, high-flow air intake system, dual-core intercooler, and specially tuned Borla exhaust – we can only imagine how brilliant the Carnivore V8 (Ford’s name for the Raptor R application of the 5.2-liter) sounds when exhaling through those pipes.

In addition to the power upgrade, the Baja Raptor R includes the same suspension and body upgrades as the V6-powered Shelby truck. And if the standard truck’s $146,795 price doesn’t scare you, try the V8 on for size; just be sure you’re ready to hand over a $194,795 check.

Let’s be honest, a 1,000-hp truck with a six-figure price tag probably doesn’t matter that much to most of the car-buying public. Then again the Shelby Baja Raptor produces 13 more horsepower than the vaunted Bugatti 16.4 Veyron (from half as many cylinders, no less), which is an astounding feat in and of itself. The desert truck arms race is alive and well, and Shelby is leading the charge – for now.
