    • Nio’s sales and service network in Macau now includes 1 Nio House, 1 Nio Space, and 2 battery swap stations.
    • The company now offers products from all 3 of its brands in Macau, while a third battery swap station has entered the planning stage.

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) on Wednesday opened its first Nio House in Macau with authorized partner Guangdong Hongyue Automobile Group. Deliveries of the flagship ES9 SUV began in the city the same day, broadening the company’s lineup for local premium EV buyers.

The new outlet is located at the Residencia Macau on Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, near the Crowne Plaza Macau, and will offer product experiences, user services, and technology showcases.

In addition to conventional retail and service functions, the facility will host community events, maintaining Nio’s emphasis on user engagement in its retail spaces.

The opening marks an expansion of Nio’s Macau presence from recharging infrastructure and basic retail facilities into a more comprehensive network covering sales, after-sales services, and its user community.

With the new outlet in operation, Nio now has a local sales and service network comprising 1 Nio House and 1 Nio Space.

The company also operates 2 battery swap stations in Macau. A third has entered the planning stage, though Nio has yet to disclose its location or an opening timeline.

Nio’s first battery swap station in Macau went into operation in November 2021, bringing the company’s total number of such facilities in China at the time to 614.

The second station opened in October 2023, taking Nio’s nationwide total at the time to 1,999.

Nio also installed charging facilities near the second station, allowing the site to serve both its swap-enabled vehicles and other EVs.

Nio’s authorized service center in Macau has also recently been upgraded. The expansion of its sales, recharging, and after-sales facilities makes it easier for local customers to buy and use Nio vehicles.

The network expansion follows a change in Nio’s operating model in Macau. The company said in June 2025 that it was seeking a distributor for the market.

Under the plan announced at the time, the partner would be responsible for Nio’s local market operations, the development of its user service network, and the expansion of its brand ecosystem.

Nio’s opening of the Nio House with Hongyue Group indicates that the new partner-led model has begun to take shape.

Hongyue Group has operated automotive businesses in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area for nearly 30 years. Working with a local dealer allows Nio to tap its existing customer base, service capacity, and operating resources.

The change is also consistent with Nio’s strategy of reducing its reliance on direct sales in some markets outside the Chinese mainland. The company is entering more markets through local dealers to lower the upfront costs of building sales and service networks.

Macau has a different vehicle-use environment from the Chinese mainland. Most vehicles on its roads are right-hand-drive models, but local policies allow consumers to buy and use left-hand-drive vehicles.

Compared with Hong Kong, which imposes tighter restrictions on left-hand-drive vehicles, Macau gives mainland Chinese EV makers greater flexibility in entering the market.

Macau already had several hundred Nio owners before the company formally announced its local market strategy, partly due to the city’s proximity to Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Nio now offers products from its Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands in Macau, making the city one of the few markets where it has introduced its full multi-brand portfolio.

The start of ES9 deliveries on the Nio House’s opening day shows that the company is using the expanded sales and service network to strengthen the Nio brand’s presence in the local premium market.

Nio did not disclose the ES9’s price in Macau, the size of the initial delivery batch, or specific sales figures for its other 2 brands in the city.

Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said the company has consistently ranked among the top 3 brands by sales in Macau’s new energy vehicle market, though he provided no specific figures.

Qin said Macau is an important market for Nio as it continues expanding in the Greater Bay Area. The company will continue working with Hongyue Group to improve its local product offerings, services, and recharging infrastructure.

Nio recorded adjusted profit from operations of 206.9 million yuan in the second quarter, about 3.1 times the first-quarter figure.
