- The Starlight styling package includes new blue paint and 21-inch wheels, with a limited-time price of 10,080 yuan ($1,490) for orders placed by September 30.
- L80 deliveries have declined sequentially for 3 consecutive months, and Onvo is turning to design changes to enhance the family SUV’s appeal.
Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo has launched a Starlight styling package for the L80 at a limited-time price of 10,080 yuan ($1,490), seeking to attract buyers to the large 5-seat SUV (sport utility vehicle) with an exterior refresh.
Onvo announced on Weibo on Friday that the package was available for purchase, with the promotional price applying to orders placed on or before September 30.
The package includes new Xinghan Blue paint and exclusive 21-inch multi-spoke Xuanhui wheels. Onvo said the color draws inspiration from reflections of the starry sky on Chaka Salt Lake in Qinghai province, while the wheel design evokes star trails.
The update focuses on exterior styling, with Onvo making no mention of powertrain or battery upgrades. The brand continues to emphasize family travel in its marketing, highlighting the L80’s front and rear storage space and capacity for outdoor gear.
The approach echoes sister brand Firefly’s use of exclusive colors and design editions to sustain interest in its product. L80 monthly deliveries have now declined sequentially for 3 consecutive months.
The L80 delivered 3,139 vehicles in August, down 2.88% from July and well below the 5,949 units recorded in May, when deliveries began, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Cumulative deliveries have reached 16,406 vehicles since May. The model accounted for 35.63% of Onvo’s deliveries in August.
The L80 was launched on May 15, with deliveries beginning the following day. Positioned as a large 5-seat electric SUV for families, it shares its platform and dimensions with the 3-row L90.
At launch, the model had a starting price of 242,800 yuan including an 85 kWh battery pack. Under the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental option, the starting price fell to 156,800 yuan, with a monthly battery rental fee of 899 yuan.
Onvo disclosed in May that more than 90% of the L80’s initial buyers chose BaaS, while 62% opted for the Max+ variant equipped with LiDAR and the Shenji NX9031 driver-assistance chip.
Firefly, by contrast, primarily targets younger consumers and urban commuters, and has repeatedly used design changes to broaden the offerings around its sole model.
On August 28, Firefly launched its sixth special edition, Club Spiaggia, limited to 666 vehicles and priced at 135,800 yuan — a 13.4% premium over the base version.
That edition is differentiated mainly by exclusive paint, decals and interior styling. Firefly had previously introduced its design-driven Halo series.
The Onvo L80 starts at 242,800 yuan ($35,810) with the battery pack included, dropping to 156,800 yuan under the BaaS model.
