Porsche is celebrating 75 years in Australia with a special edition of its 911 called ‘Land Down Under’.

It’s not the only anniversary Porsche is commemorating this year. The brand also entered the UK market back in 1951, and to celebrate 75 years here it unveiled the 911 GT3 Earls Court Edition. However, the model destined for Australia is very different.

The Land Down Under is based on the 911 Turbo S, and features some exclusive paint and options created by Porsche’s ‘Sonderwunsch’ personalisation team and Sydney-based artist Werner Bronkhorst.

Inspired by Australia’s earth, sky and cultural textures, the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under comes with an exclusive ‘Chromaflair’ paint finish which has a gradient spanning ‘Southern Cross Blue’ above the 911’s shoulderline to ‘Terra Australis Red’ towards the lower edge.

The finish requires 300 hours of work with seven layers needed, and while it might look like someone has driven their Turbo S across the Outback, up close you’ll be able to see the ultra-thin flakes providing a colour-shifting effect.

The roof bears the number 75 within the paintwork, while another detail that’s even harder to spot – only visible when the rear spoiler is deployed at speeds above 50mph – is some script underneath that cheekily states: ‘See ya later mate’.

The interior of the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under has a combination of dark blue leather and brown upholstery. On the headrests, you’ll find a unique emblem outlining Australia and ‘Porsche 75 Years’ script overlaid. Further nods to the country can be found on the dash, with topographical references to the Blue Mountains, Australian Silky Oak wood inlays and a map of the southern hemisphere’s night sky as it appeared over Uluru the year Porsche arrived in Australia.

The 911 Turbo S Land Down Under is the fifth model revealed this year to celebrate Porsche’s anniversary in Australia. After the Formula One grand prix in Melbourne in March, the firm unveiled four cars – a Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, Macan 4S, Taycan 4S Cross Turismo and Cayenne S – themed around Australia’s North, South, East and West.

As a one-off you won’t be able to buy the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under, but don’t worry Porsche fans – if you head over to the Auto Express Buy A Car service now you’ll find loads of great deals on 911s.
