    • The MG 07 is priced from 125,900 yuan ($18,540) to 165,900 yuan in pre-sales and will officially launch in late August.
    • The top version offers a CLTC range of 845 kilometers and supports 5C fast charging.

SAIC Motor’s (SSE: 600104) MG brand has opened pre-sales for the new MG 07 fastback sedan in China, its first model equipped with LiDAR.

MG announced the start of MG 07 pre-sales at an event on Wednesday, with a starting price of 125,900 yuan ($18,540), well below the 150,000-yuan level many had previously expected.

The MG 07 is available in 5 battery-electric variants. The 650 Comfort version is priced at 125,900 yuan in pre-sales, the 610 LiDAR version at 135,900 yuan and the 610 Flagship version at 145,900 yuan. The 845 LiDAR and 845 Flagship versions carry early-bird prices of 155,900 yuan and 165,900 yuan, respectively.

The model will officially launch in late August. Deliveries of the versions with around 600 kilometers of range will begin at the end of August, while deliveries of the 845-kilometer versions will start in early October.

The MG 07 is the brand’s first LiDAR-equipped model and represents a key push into China’s mainstream electric vehicle market. Apart from the entry-level version, the other 4 variants are equipped with 1 LiDAR sensor and 11 exterior cameras.

The MG 07 is the first model to use Momenta’s (HKEX: 6880) R7 world-model driving-assistance system, paired with the Xheart X7 chip designed for large AI models.

The entry-level 650 Comfort version instead uses Horizon Robotics’ (HKEX: 9660) Journey J6B chip and does not offer highway or urban navigation-assisted driving.

The model’s advanced driving-assistance functions are currently being offered free for a limited time.

The 650 and 610 versions use a 67-kWh battery and a front-mounted motor with maximum output of 176 kW, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The 845 version has a 91-kWh battery and a 235-kW motor, cutting the acceleration time to 5.9 seconds.

Notably, the 2 groups use different electrical architectures. The 845 version is built on an 800-volt platform and supports 5C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in 12 minutes.

The 650 and 610 versions use a 400-volt architecture with a peak charging rate of 3C and require 20 minutes for the same charging interval.

Their battery suppliers also differ. The 67-kWh versions use hybrid solid-liquid batteries from SAIC-backed Qingtao Energy, while the 91-kWh versions use ternary lithium batteries supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750).

The MG 07 measures 4,886 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,485 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm.

The new model features a liftback fastback design, 4 frameless doors and a power rear spoiler adjustable across 5 positions. It also provides a 168-liter frunk and a 697-liter rear cargo compartment.

The cabin is powered by an 8295P chip and features a 15.6-inch 2.5K central display, a 21-speaker 7.1.4-channel audio system and a zero-gravity front passenger seat.

MG is also expected to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the MG 07, powered by a 1.5-liter engine and offering a WLTC battery-only range of 185 kilometers, according to some local media reports.

The MG 07 is entering one of China’s most competitive vehicle segments. Its direct rivals include the BYD (HKEX: 1211) Seal 07 DM-i and the Lynk & Co 07 EM-P.

MG’s electric vehicle lineup currently on sale in China mainly consists of the MG4 hatchback series and the MG Cyberster convertible sports car.

The MG4 EV has a limited-time starting price of 65,800 yuan, while the Cyberster carries official prices ranging from about 319,800 yuan to 365,800 yuan.

The initial investment in the plant is about 200 million euros ($233 million), with a planned annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles.
