- The Luxeed RX is Huawei HIMA’s first SUV with a letter-based name and will target the Xiaomi YU7.
- The model will debut at the same event where the Stelato G9 will officially go on sale.
Luxeed, the EV brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chery (HKEX: 9973), said on Thursday that its new RX SUV (sport utility vehicle) model will open for orders in China on August 20.
The vehicle will debut at a Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) product launch event starting at 2:30 pm Beijing Time that day. The Stelato G9 off-road SUV, jointly developed by Huawei and BAIC, will also officially go on sale at the event.
The Luxeed RX is HIMA’s first SUV to break away from the alliance’s conventional number-based naming system and adopt a letter-based name. Previous Luxeed models have used names such as S7, R7 and V9.
The RX measures 5,020 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width and 1,600 mm or 1,585 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, according to previous regulatory filings.
It will be offered with either a single 277-kW motor or a dual-motor setup combining 160-kW and 277-kW motors.
Luxeed said the model will feature several of HIMA’s flagship technologies, including Huawei’s next-generation Giant Whale battery platform.
Other features include a 4-LiDAR array and a full-stack redundant architecture designed to support more advanced assisted-driving capabilities.
A 4-LiDAR setup remains relatively rare among mass-produced vehicles. Most premium electric vehicles in China currently use 1 to 3 LiDAR sensors.
When Luxeed first teased the RX in June, it showed a sporty coupe-style design with a fastback profile and full-width taillights, positioning the model against Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) YU7 SUV.
Chinese media outlet 36kr reported in April that Luxeed was planning an extreme-performance model that could be taken to Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife for a challenge.
Luxeed currently sells the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV and V9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), with the V9 having been launched in May.
The brand plans to strengthen its market foundation in 2026 and aims to reach annual sales of 1 million vehicles by 2030.
The Luxeed RX will also make a public appearance at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 21. All 5 HIMA brands will participate in the show.
The updated R7 and S7 feature upgraded autonomous driving technology, coming just seven months after their last refresh.
