Employees are on edge at Lucid after 2,400 workers lost their jobs this year, and the company’s future appears to hinge on the new midsize all-electric Cosmos crossover that was expected this year but has been pushed back to 2027. The company is losing billions of dollars annually because there are only so many shoppers willing to spend at least $72,000 for a luxury EV.

So where does Lucid go from here? To Monterey Car Week, of course, to reveal an even more expensive version of the Lucid Gravity. Orders are now being taken for the 2026 Gravity GT-S, which was inspired by the Lucid Air Sapphire to deliver more power and dynamic capability while preserving the functionality, comfort, and space that draws shoppers to three-row crossovers. Lucid calls it an SUV, but the low roofline hints at a minivan with more style but no sliding doors.
Oh, and an insane amount of horspower.
Blue Accents, Zero To 60 MPH In 3.1 Seconds

Until now, Gravity shoppers had to settle for a 560-horsepower Touring model capable of a 60-mph sprint of 4.0 seconds, or the 828-horsepower Grand Touring rated at 3.4 seconds. The new Gravity GT-S, using dual motors like the others, churns out 1,070 horsepower and is capable of reaching 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, by Lucid’s estimates. The standard Dynamic Handling Package is intended to enhance stability and ride comfort with independent rear-wheel steering and an adaptive three-chamber air suspension that lowers the vehicle at higher speeds.
The Gravity GT-S brings lots of blue accents, inside and out – on brake calipers, seatbelts, steering wheel, armrests, and seat stitching and piping, as an accent for the charcoal Mojave PurLuxe Premium upholstery. For an extra $1,300, your Gravity GT-S will come with the Tahoe leather interior option.

A three-row electric SUV with more than 1,000 horsepower cannot be cheap, and that’s true for the Gravity GT-S. It will be available exclusively in the United States with a starting price of $127,750, including the $1,850 destination charge. That’s a big step up from the $81,550 base price for the standard Gravity and an even bigger leap from the $72,400 Lucid Air entry point.

But if there’s any place where $128,000 might be considered a bargain, it’s on the Monterey Peninsula this weekend, as tens of millions of dollars will be spent at five collector car auctions leading up to Sunday’s Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach. If you’re there, you’ll see the Gravity GT-S parked beside its sibling, the Lucid Air Sapphire, in the Concours Village. But does a 1,070-hp halo model do anything to solve Lucid’s financial problems?

What Lucid really needs right now is to sell a lot of cars, at any price. The automaker has been consistently producing more cars at its plant in Arizona than it can sell. That means there’s excess inventory – and probably deals to be had. A second plant is tooling up now in Saudi Arabia, intended to produce the Cosmos and potentially another electric crossover, the Earth, from the same new midsize platform.
Company executives have said Lucid has enough cash to carry it well into 2027. But how’s that cash going to be replenished if the Cosmos isn’t generating revenue until late 2027? Can Gravity GT-S sales miraculously keep the company going for 12 more months? Lucid’s bean counters sure hope so.
