Jaguar is still planning to bring the incredibly controversial Type 00 to market, and this is proof. The EV has made it to the Nürburgring for testing. It’s late in the season for the big grand tourer to be hitting the track – just look at all that water – but better late than never. It might be the fake grille, and it might be the number of times we’ve seen it, but this oddball Brit is starting to grow on us.
The false grille on this prototype really transforms the look of the car. No, there’s not really a need for a grille on an EV. In fact, it probably actually hurts range. But even though it looks like a Chrysler 300, the small change makes a world of difference to the appearance of the car.
Jaguar Is Working Even Harder To Hide The 00’s Looks

Jaguar is still hiding the headlights behind tape, but we can’t help thinking that this would look amazing with some sort of hidden headlight design. Forget Chrysler 300, the resemblance to a 1981 Chrysler Imperial, or even a 1990-1993 model is surprisingly strong. We aren’t sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
This car has more than one tack-on grille hiding its details. Like some sort of post-apocalyptic truck, it has a lower mesh protective part that seems to be riveted on. It’s sloppy and it’s large, but it’s doing its job of hiding the front of the car quite well.

Jag is hiding the sides of the Type 00 prototype too. Large bulging panels disguise the tall and flat doors we saw on the concept cars. Jaguar could be planning to make the Type 00 a little less slab-sided, but this is probably just part of the illusion that hides the lines of the car.
This prototype is riding on some absolutely massive wheels. The rubber-band tires don’t seem to be working well with those wheels, because we can see loads of what looks like curb damage on the rims. Style always comes with a cost.
Long Range, High Power Expected For This Cat

This new Jaguar is still set to be electric, though some of its competitors have backed away from that. The company’s new 800-volt electrical architecture promises to bring Jaguar very long range as well as fast charging. Jag is targeting 430 miles of range on a single charge on the EPA cycle. The company is also looking to get 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of fast charging.
On the power front, we’ve seen reports and rumors claiming more than 1,000 horsepower. The Type 00 is expected to be equal parts luxurious and fast, part of its opulent Grand Tourer nature.

Jaguar has featured vibrant colors for the car on its social media channels and as part of the reveal. Miami Pink, London Blue, and Parisian Gold all show a level of standing out that we haven’t seen from the normally restrained brand in many years. Possibly since the E-Type was new, and that’s been more than half a century.
The question, then, is when will it finally debut? And the answer to that is, we don’t know. But with it now literally on track, that date has to be approaching. Considering Jaguar dealers literally have nothing to sell right now (aside from Land Rovers), we suspect time is of the essence here.
