Jaguar has given us our first real look inside the upcoming Type 01, and anyone expecting a modern interpretation of the wood, leather, and chrome cabins that defined generations of Jaguars may need a moment to adjust. The all-electric grand tourer represents the centerpiece of Jaguar’s dramatic reinvention, and its four-seat interior makes it abundantly clear that the company is not interested in simply updating old ideas. Instead, Jaguar has created a minimalist, almost architectural cabin that looks unlike anything the brand has previously put into production.
The most striking feature is a long central spine stretching from the dashboard through the entire passenger compartment, visually separating the cabin into four individual seating areas. Brass-inspired trim runs along the structure and is echoed on the doors, giving the otherwise restrained interior a bit of warmth. Jaguar has also used repeating horizontal elements throughout the dashboard, steering wheel, and door panels to create a clean sense of continuity. The four sculpted seats sit relatively low for an EV and are designed around what Jaguar calls a GT driving position, a welcome choice at a time when many electric cars place occupants noticeably higher because of their battery packs.
Technology is present without completely dominating the room. A large digital display sits directly in front of the driver, while a comparatively small central touchscreen handles functions such as climate and infotainment controls. Jaguar has also incorporated a camera-based ClearSight rearview display near the base of the windshield, positioned closer to the driver’s natural line of sight than a conventional mirror. The wide two-spoke steering wheel includes touch-sensitive controls, and traditional column stalks remain visible, suggesting Jaguar has not abandoned physical interaction entirely in pursuit of a completely screen-driven experience.
Overhead, a long single-pane glass roof helps open up a cabin that might otherwise feel enclosed by the substantial center structure and high beltline. Materials and colors take inspiration from travertine stone, with light upholstery, subtle textures, and metallic accents replacing the traditional club-room atmosphere once associated with large Jaguars. Hidden storage and technology that appears only when needed are also part of the design philosophy. There is a certain concept-car quality to the whole thing, which makes it particularly interesting that this is intended to represent the production interior rather than another design exercise.
Jaguar will bring a camouflaged Type 01 prototype to Monterey Car Week, giving enthusiasts an opportunity to see the radical new cabin before the exterior is fully revealed. The complete production car is scheduled to make its debut in New York on October 6, 2026. Jaguar’s transformation has already generated plenty of debate, and the Type 01 will ultimately have to prove that the new design direction works beyond provocative imagery and show-car drama. Judging by the interior, however, nobody will be able to accuse Jaguar of playing it safe.
