Jaguar’s long-teased reinvention finally has a reveal window, and the stage will be New York City this October. According to Road & Track, Jaguar Land Rover chief operating officer Leonard Hoornik confirmed during JLR’s 2026 Investor Day presentation on June 17 that the new Jaguar Type 01 will be launched “in a very, very special way” in New York. For a brand that has spent the last couple of years stirring debate with its radical design shift and all-electric ambitions, this will be the moment when the concept talk gives way to a real production-bound grand tourer.
The Type 01 is the production follow-up to the polarizing Type 00 concept, and Jaguar has already explained through its own media channels that the name is intentional. “Type” connects the car to Jaguar icons like the C-Type, D-Type, E-Type, and F-Type, while “0” points to zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first model in a new generation. That is a lot of symbolism for one badge, but Jaguar needs this car to do more than simply look expensive. It has to prove that the company’s dramatic brand reset has substance behind the styling, marketing, and social-media noise.
What we know so far is that the Type 01 is being positioned as a luxury electric four-door GT rather than a conventional sedan. Reports from Car and Driver, Auto Express, and Jaguar’s own prototype previews suggest a low, dramatic shape that closely follows the Type 00’s long-hood, fastback-inspired proportions. The camouflaged prototypes have already shown off a design that avoids the familiar EV playbook, with a bold front end, clean surfacing, and a stance that seems determined to make people argue about it. That may be exactly the point. Jaguar has not felt this culturally loud in years, even if not every longtime fan is ready to applaud.
JLR’s Investor Day also gave a broader look at where the company is headed beyond Jaguar. Reuters reported that JLR continues to invest in hybrid technology for Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery, while the company also outlined plans for its electric-focused EMA platform. The first model on that architecture is expected to be a Range Rover offered with EV and hybrid powertrains, followed by a Defender model with a similar strategy. Still, the spotlight this fall belongs to Jaguar. When the Type 01 rolls out in New York, it will not just be another EV debut. It will be the clearest answer yet to whether Jaguar’s new era can feel as special on the street as it has looked on the mood board.
