Subaru has long stood out in the automotive world for being different and generations of WRX STI enthusiasts have grown to love the noise that its boxer engines emit. But what many people don’t realize is that this signature noise is not simply a result of that odd boxer activity by itself and is instead related to the exhaust manifold. Subaru would eventually learn how to more efficiently manage the issue that led to those noises, but would also discover that the imperfection itself is what helped make the iconic car so memorable.
