Hyundai Motor America is issuing another serious safety recall, this time affecting 94,622 vehicles in the United States due to a potential fire risk involving the front power seats. According to Reuters and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall covers certain 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis sedans and 2017-2020 Genesis G80 models. The concern centers around power seat motors that could overheat, potentially causing a fire whether the vehicle is being driven or simply sitting parked. It’s certainly not the kind of issue any owner wants to hear about, especially when the potential danger exists even when the vehicle isn’t in use.

The problem reportedly stems from a power seat control switch that can become stuck, allowing the seat motor to continue operating and potentially overheat. While power-adjustable seats are usually something drivers rarely think twice about, this defect presents a significant enough safety concern that Hyundai is advising affected owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings, garages, and other vehicles until repairs can be completed. Making matters a bit more frustrating, the automaker has yet to finalize a repair solution. This also isn’t the first time these particular Genesis models have faced fire-related recalls, as earlier campaigns addressed electrical problems involving the anti-lock braking system and starter components.

For owners of the affected Hyundai Genesis and Genesis G80 sedans, the important thing right now is to take the parking recommendation seriously and check whether their specific vehicle is included in the recall. Hyundai is expected to begin mailing notification letters on December 7, 2026, with the recall identified under NHTSA campaign number 26V664000. Owners can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) through the official NHTSA recall website at https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls or contact Hyundai and Genesis customer service for additional information. Once a remedy becomes available, recall-related repairs will be performed at no cost to owners. Until then, keeping affected vehicles parked outside and away from structures remains the safest precaution.
